Delicious All Year Long

Honey Lime Fruit Salad

Ingredients

• 1-pound strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced • 3 kiwi fruits, peeled and sliced into half moons • 2 mangoes, peeled and diced • 10 ounces, blueberries, washed • 1 cup green grapes, halved • 9 ounce can pineapple chunks or pieces (or 1/2 of a fresh pineapple, peeled and diced) • 3 tablespoons honey • 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lime juice • 1 tablespoon pineapple juice (from the canned pineapple, if using)

Instructions

1. Place prepared washed and sliced or diced fruits in a large salad bowl. 2. Using a measuring jug, combine the honey, lime juice and pineapple juice. Pour the syrup through the fruit and mix well. Mix the juices accumulated at the bottom of the bowl once again before serving, if not serving immediately.

MIFFLINBURG’S ARCHERY TEAM HITTING THE MARK! The Mifflinburg Area Middle School Archery Team completed in the Montrose Tournament on Monday, January 6, 2020 with over 400 competitors. Our Team placed 4th overall in the Tournament! Congratulations to those placing individually in the tournament! Those individuals were the following:

➢ Ben Reitz – 282: Placed 1st in Boys’ Middle School Division, 1st in 7th Grade Ranking and 2nd in Boys Overall; ➢ Phoenix Douty – 274: Placed 6th in Girls’ Middle School Division and 2nd in 8th Grade Rankings; ➢ Kooper Haines – 254: Placed 5th in 8th Grade Ranking; ➢ Aubrey Fluman – 251: Placed 6th in 6th Grade Ranking; ➢ Warrick Beachy – 250: Placed 8th in 6th Grade Ranking; and

➢ Xander Peachey – 266: Placed 7th in 7th Grade Ranking.

Our archery program has approximately 80 students for intramurals, and we have 40 students, both middle schoolers and high schoolers, on the Archery Team. The Team members compete against other schools and attempt to qualify for the State Tournament. The Archery Team practices after school every Wednesday and Thursday. INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL ANNOUNCES ASPIRES AWARD WINNERS Congratulations to the recipients of the ASPIRES Awards for January 2020! These awards are given to students who regularly demonstrate respect, kindness and school safety. The ASPIRES Awards are sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club. January’s winners are: 3rd Grade – Aiden Lora; 4th Grade – Dallas Reid; and 5th Grade – Grady Brubaker.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BUILDERS CLUB RECEIVES DONATIONS FROM LOCAL CHURCHES TO BENEFIT SCHOOL FOOD PANTRY AND HYGIENE SHELVES The Middle School Builders Club has graciously accepted a generous donation of $925.00 collected on Christmas Eve from the parishioners of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mifflinburg. The donation will be used to stock the Middle School’s Food Pantry. A second donation was received from the Dreisbach United Church of Christ for $200.00 to purchase items for the hygiene shelves located near the office. The Builders Club would like to thank them both for these thoughtful and generous donations as they help the students within our schools and continue their work on service-based

projects throughout our community!

ELLA SHUCK’S CAREER-HIGH 29 POINTS LEAD CATS TO VICTORY OVER JERSEY SHORE, 57-50 Congratulations to Ella Shuck for her amazing performance scoring 29 points on the court to help the Wildcats secure the win over Jersey Shore! Also scoring in this game were: Angela Reamer (5 points), Mara Shuck (13 points), Mollie Bomgardner (6 points), Brooke Catherman (2 points) and Cassie Keister (2 points). Congratulations ladies!

MIFF TOPS PENNS VALLEY IN OVERTIME, 54-50 In a tough battle, the Wildcats topped Penns Valley in overtime with a final score of 54-50. Scoring in this game were: Mara Shuck (23 points), Angela Reamer (14 points), Mollie Bomgardner (4 points), Brooke Catherman (2 points), Ella Shuck (6 points) and Cassie Keister (5 points).

IN BOYS’ BASKETBALL NEWS. . . WILDCATS TAKE THE WIN OVER CENTRAL MOUNTAIN, 65-63 In a close game, the Wildcats were able to come away with the lead over Central Mountain to finish with a 65-63 victory. Isaiah Valentine had an impressive game-high of 24 points! Dylan Doebler and Jake Young added 13 points each for the Wildcats. Seth Kline scored 10 points, and Dante Colon scored five points.

WILDCATS PROVE TO BE BALLERS IN WIN OVER JERSEY SHORE, 81-52 The return of Isaiah Valentine after injury is helping the Wildcats dominate on the Court. In the 81-52 win over Jersey Shore, Isaiah Valentine had eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks and scored an impressive game-high of 31 points. Also scoring were the following: Dylan Doebler (6 points), Seth Kline (5 points), Dante Colon (9 points), Liam Church (1 point), Rylee Stahl (5 points), Zach Wertman (3 points), Cannon Griffith (5 points) and Jake Young (16 points). Let’s hear it for the boys!

CAREER-HIGH 38 POINTS BY VALENTINE SECURE THE WIN OVER SHIKELLAMY, 77-49 Isaiah Valentine is on a hot-streak since returning from his early season injury! He scored a career-high 38 points in the game against Shikellamy on Saturday afternoon! Dante Colon and Jake Young each scored 13 points during the game. Also scoring were: Carter Breed (2 points), Dylan Doebler (3 points), Cannon Griffith (3 points), Seth Kline (3 points) and Gabe Yoder (2 points). Great job guys!

PennCFL’s mission is to provide Pennsylvania’s K-12 students with economic, personal finance and entrepreneurship skills that elevate their standard of living, quality of life and professional success.
