40 Days Prayer & Fasting WEEK 6: OUR This year’s theme for our National Day commemorates our Singapore bicentennial and calls different generations to express their generation’s hopes, dreams and aspirations from past to present. We are living the dreams of our pioneers, and we are now the pioneers of our future. It is a call to unite all Singaporeans of different generations to have an ownership to build Singapore for tomorrow.

“God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: „The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.‟ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.” – Exodus 3:15

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does” – Psalm 145:13

“And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.” – Genesis 17:7

Truly, the kingdom of God is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion endures through all generations. No matter which generation you belong to, we belong to God! God’s plan for His Church is always to have all generations doing life and serving Jesus together, and ultimately bring a living Jesus to a dying world!

God isn’t just the God of some past generation, or of the up-and-coming generations. He’s the God of all generations. Let’s embrace and utilise the God-given gifts and callings on each generation. If any generation is taken away, we lose our edge - we lose our effectiveness in reaching a lost and dying world.

Whatever generation you happen to belong to or identify with, you are incredibly valuable. You have a vital role to play in God’s great master plan! Let’s build a multi- generational legacy of Bible-believing, Jesus-loving, Kingdom-serving disciples to fulfill both the Greatest Commandment (to love) and the Great Commission (to make disciples). Let us fulfill our Antioch legacy! 40 Days Prayer & Fasting WEEK 6: OUR SINGAPORE

DAY 36 (5/8/2019): OUR SINGAPORE – GENERATION TO GENERATION

“O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.‟ – Psalms 71:17-18

“One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” – Psalm 145:4

It is the Biblical duty of every generation of Christians to see to it that the next generation hears about the mighty acts of God. Abraham passed his torch on to Isaac and Isaac to Jacob, Moses passed his torch on to Joshua, Elijah to Elisha, David to Solomon, Paul to Timothy, and so on. It is the natural order of things for an older generation to give way to a younger generation. Today's older church members took the torch which was passed on to them by the earlier generation and have faithfully carried it for their generation's lap of the great race.

As the Church, we are entrusted to pass the baton of faith from one generation to the next. . Our top priority is to love God with everything we are and to love our neighbour. . The goal of the race is to become more like Christ. The baton is Christ at work in me and through me to the world. The race is the process of becoming like the One I’m running toward, Jesus Christ. . The mandate to bring the Good News about Jesus Christ to our nation and nations beyond

Regardless of our family background, God can use us – mums and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and spiritual mothers and fathers – to raise a generation who walks in intimate friendship with Jesus and develop biblical thinking and godly living.

Prayer: . Pray that as a church, we will pass on the baton of faith to the next generation – we will be committed to disciple, train and equip new believers, regardless of how young or old they may be, to see their lives changed, to make a difference in their society and fulfill God’s call in their lives. . Pray for God to unite His people from all generations to honor and praise Him as they bear witness of His love. 40 Days Prayer & Fasting WEEK 6: OUR SINGAPORE

DAY 37 (6/8/2019): OUR SINGAPORE – PIONEER & MERDEKA GENERATION

“ I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also .” – 2 Timothy 1:5

We acknowledge and honour our Pioneer and Merdeka Generation who have dedicated and sacrificed their life faithfully to build Singapore strong and sturdy. Today, Singapore is one of the top 10 most talent-competitive countries in the world; providing high quality of life for the residents. The Pioneer and Merdeka generations set excellent example. Take heed to nurture and influence the generations to come to carry on their mission for Singapore.

Prayer: . Thank God for the Pioneer & Merdeka Generations - their preparation for future generations is the great marker of the generations gone by. They were willing to strike out as pioneers, go to unmarked lands, plow virgin ground, build fences, and fight wars to build a life for generations yet to come. . Pray for the Pioneer and Merdeka generations, as they enter into their golden years, they will continue to find meaning and purpose in their lives and imparting truth to the next generation. . Pray for the Pioneer and Merdeka generations that they will continue to cultivate multi-generational mentorship to the younger generation in building Singapore. 40 Days Prayer & Fasting WEEK 6: OUR SINGAPORE

DAY 38 (7/8/2019): OUR SINGAPORE – GENERATION X & THE MILLENNIALS

Generation X came of age in an era of two-income families, rising divorce rates, and a faltering economy. They were sometimes called as “latch-key” generation due to reduced adult supervision. As a result, Generation X is independent, resourceful, and self-sufficient. They value freedom and responsibility.

Millennials are labelled as "ME ME ME GENERATION." The self-centered generation of Millennials who have been raised with scads of “participation trophies” and parents who mistakenly believed that shoring up self-esteem was more important to success than character and people skills. This generation lives mostly through screens, whether those on phones, on tablets, or on computers, and believes somehow that it is entitled to success without experiencing hard knocks or even the passage of time.

Prayer: . Pray for the harmonious and respect toward each other so that they can empower one another. Not for self- interest but the interest of Singapore. - Romans 12:16 . Pray against any pride that set against the words of God and they will not tolerate sin and see it as a norm. (e.g. LGBT, cohabitation, divorce and etc) . Pray for submission to authorities. - Romans 13:1 . Pray for the spirit of giving and caring that allow us to be pioneers of our future together, as we continue to build Singapore for future generations. - 1 John 4:11-12

DAY 39 (8/8/2019): OUR SINGAPORE – FUTURE GENERATION

The future of Singapore belongs to the next generation. Parents, don’t just focus on your children’s academic results and neglect building on their character. Godly character shapes the nation. Idolatry and immorality lead to the downfall of a nation.

Don‟t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God‟s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. - Romans 12:2

“We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about His power and His mighty wonders…so the next generation might know them…and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying His commands.” – Psalms 78:4, 6-7

Prayer: . Parents are the first Bible that their children read. Pray for our Christian parent to raise their children to have the fear of God in their lives and they will not depart from God’s truth as they grow up. - Proverb 22:6 . Pray for resilient generations that will storm through every difficulty that is ahead of them. . Pray for our future generation to carry the sense of ownership and continue to build on the legacy of our nation. They will not conform to the patterns of the world which would cause the downfall of our nation.

DAY 40 (9/8/2019): OUR SINGAPORE – OUR GOVERNMENT & 4G LEADERS

Prayer: . Thank God for a strong, stable and successful government. Pray for integrity and righteousness of God in the fourth- generation leaders so that they will not be easily influenced by the voices and make wrong decisions that lead to a downfall of Singapore. (eg Section 377A of the Penal Code) . Bless every minister as they give their life sacrificially. Pray for unity and God’s protection over their health, family.
