South Coast Plain Area profile: Supporting documents Introduction National Character Areas map As part of Natural England’s responsibilities as set out in the Natural Environment White Paper,1 Biodiversity 20202 and the European Landscape Convention,3 we are revising profiles for England’s 159 National Character Areas North (NCAs). These are areas that share similar landscape characteristics, and which East follow natural lines in the landscape rather than administrative boundaries, making them a good decision-making framework for the natural environment. Yorkshire & The North Humber NCA profiles are guidance documents which can help communities to inform West their decision-making about the places that they live in and care for. The information they contain will support the planning of conservation initiatives at a East landscape scale, inform the delivery of Nature Improvement Areas and encourage Midlands broader partnership working through Local Nature Partnerships. The profiles will West also help to inform choices about how land is managed and can change. Midlands East of Each profile includes a description of the natural and cultural features England that shape our landscapes, how the landscape has changed over time, the current key drivers for ongoing change, and a broad analysis of each London area’s characteristics and ecosystem services. Statements of Environmental South East Opportunity (SEOs) are suggested, which draw on this integrated information. South West The SEOs offer guidance on the critical issues, which could help to achieve sustainable growth and a more secure environmental future. -

He has represented Chichester West as a City Councillor since 2007 and as a District Councillor since 2011. He will continue to support the activities of Residents’ Associations in West Ward and Community Safety initiatives such as the Parklands Neighbourhood Management Panel. He participated in the campaigns for a footbridge at the Fishbourne Road East railway crossing, protection of Henty Field from possible devel- opment and 20’s Plenty in residential areas. Philippa Budge (01243 780121 or [email protected]) moved to Chichester in 1976 when she worked as a teacher. Her children attended local schools while she joined local clubs including the Women’s Institute and the Horticultural Society. Her husband Peter has been a councillor for the last four years. She has observed his work in the community and, now fully retired , she also wants to put something back for the West Ward residents. Leslie Hixson (07923 948928 or [email protected]) ran a successful printing business where he trained apprentices and encouraged personal development. In retirement he supported various voluntary organisations, including The Children’s Society and local clubs mentoring children with low self-esteem or excluded. He sat on the Youth Justice Panel, worked with Home Start helping young families, and provided mentoring to patients with brain injuries. -

West Sussex SEND Information, Advice and Support Service EHC Needs Assessment This information is about the Education, Health and Care needs assessment (EHC Needs Assessment), which used to be called a ‘statutory assessment’. It covers: l children in early years settings l children of compulsory school age l young people aged 16-25 in college or further education You might also like to look at our leaflet on: Education, Health and Care Plans What is an EHC needs assessment? An EHC needs assessment is a detailed look at a child/young person’s special educational needs (SEN) and the support he or she may need in order to learn. Local authorities are responsible for carrying out EHC needs assessments under the Children and Families Act 2014. The needs assessment brings together information about: l what your child can and cannot do l the special help they need. It includes information from: l you l your child/young person l the early years’ setting, school or post 16 provider l other professionals who work with or support your child/young person. The assessment is to see if your child needs an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC plan). When is an EHC needs assessment necessary? The school, early years setting or post 16 provider can often give your child help through SEN support. This means that the school makes additional or different provision to meet their needs. Sometimes other professionals will give advice or support to help your child learn. Some children need more intensive and specialist help. If your child does not make progress despite the SEN support an EHC needs assessment might be the next step. -
