TEAM SAVE MARK MATCHED--Wednesday’s save by Wade Davis was his 15th of the year and the 53rd by the Kansas City bullpen, matching the club record set by last year’s relief corps...the KC pen has set or tied the team save record in each of the last three years, with the 2013 bullpen becoming the first to rescue 52 games, which was eclipsed by one with last year’s group and now one more save in the final four games will establish another team mark...the Royals’ bullpen enters tonight with the second best ERA in the Majors at 2.73 (Pittsburgh leads at 2.70), which is more than a half of a run better than last year’s stellar corps that finished with a 3.30 mark...opponents are hitting .214 off KC’s relievers this year, compared to a .235 mark last season. WADING THROUGH THE COMPETITION--Wade Davis earned his 15th save of the year last night and has now allowed one in his last 18.0 innings, limiting the opposition to a collective .107 batting average while fanning 22 in that span...he was rewarded with his eighth win of the year on September 23, which are more victories than 15 pitchers in the Majors who have made at least 25 starts this year...he’s 8-1 with 13 rescues and a 0.96 ERA this season...dating back to September 4, 2013, when Wade made the full-time return to the bullpen, he has posted a Major League best 19-4 record among relievers and 0.98 ERA, allowing only 16 earned runs in 147.2 innings, while fanning 191 hitters for an 11.64 strikeouts per 9-inning ratio. MOOSE’S CAREER YEAR--The re-invention of Mike Moustakas as a hitter has been deemed a success with just three games to go as the 27-year old has now established career highs in hits (152), home runs (22), RBI (80), runs scored (72) and walks (41)...his .282 batting average will end up a career-best, topping the .263 mark from his rookie campaign of 2011, while it’s currently 70 points higher than his 2014 mark. NEXT WEEK’S PLANS--Kansas City returns home Sunday night, will take Monday off and then workout on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in Kauffman Stadium...that workout will be open to the public, with the gates opening at 11:15...FSKC announcers Ryan Lefebvre and Rex Hudler will conduct interviews of staff and players from the field during the workout...the Royals will also have a press conference at 11:45 a.m. in the Interview Room featuring and ...the press conference will be shown on Crown Vision for fans in attendance for the workout. HOSMER TAKING AIM ON 20-HOMER CLUB--With 18 home runs, Eric Hosmer is one shy of his career-high established during his rookie season of 2011 and just two short of 20...should he hit two more home runs this weekend, Hosmer would become the fourth Royal to clobber at least 20 dingers this year, joining Mike Moustakas (22), Kendrys Morales (22) and Salvador Perez (20)...this is the ninth time Kansas City has had at least three players reach the 20-homer plateau in the same season, the first time since 2002 when Carlos Beltran (29), Raul Ibanez and (21)...if Hoz joins the group, it would mark the third time in team annals, first since 1987 (Danny Tartabull-34, -24 and /-22). RECORD SEASON AT THE GATE--Kansas City finished the home slate with 2,708,549 fans passing through the Kauffman Stadium turnstiles to shatter its previous single season total of 2,477,700 set back in 1989...the Royals had a per game average of 33,439 and enjoyed 60 crowds in excess of 30,000, going 34-26 in those affairs, while posting a 13-7 mark in 20 home sellouts..Kansas City blew past the 2,000,000 mark in season attendance in the 60th home date on August 14, marking the fastest that KC has eclipsed that milestone, three dates earlier than the 1989 campaign.
