COVID-19 Vaccine News & Info
September 27, 2021 COVID-19 Vaccine News & Infoi TIMELY UPDATES • New York State launched an outreach and implementation plan to ensure the availability and accessibility of booster doses statewide on Monday, September 27, 2021. The plan also includes a new dedicated website: NY.gov/Boosters • The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday, September 24, 2021 reversed a recommendation by an agency advisory panel that did not endorse booster shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine for frontline and essential workers. Occupational risk of exposure will now be part of the consideration for the administration of boosters, which is consistent with the FDA determination. See: CDC Statement CDC recommends: o people 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, o people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, o people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks, and o people aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks. -

Minor League Baseball and Its Clubs Embodied the Mission of Milb
2019 MiLBTM COMMUNITY REPORT LETTER FROM PAT O’CONNER LETTER FROM PAT Dear Friends and Colleagues, Thank you for your efforts in making 2019 another successful philanthropic year for Minor League Baseball, our 160 teams and MiLB Charities. As we prepare for the 2020 season, we have many accomplishments from last season to celebrate. None of our efforts would be possible without the great work of our teams, continued dedication from staff at the national office and the support of our millions of fans nationwide. For a fifth straight year, all 160 clubs reported their charitable giving and contributions, allowing us to accurately assess our collective efforts. It gives me great pleasure to say that in 2019, MiLB Charities donated nearly $50 million in cash and gifts in kind from our teams, leagues and partners — once again setting a new record-high total. In addition, MiLB and its teams nearly doubled our volunteer efforts from 2018, giving more than 26,000 hours in service of our communities. This report highlights MiLB Charities’ many programs and initiatives, including the MiLB CommUNITY Initiative presented by Allegiant Air, the Stars & Stripes Caps Program with New Era Cap Company, the Derrick Hall Pro-State Foundation Father’s Day Initiative, Ed Randall’s Fans For the Cure, the Joe Torre Safe At Home Domestic Violence Awareness Initiative, and the “Cover Your Bases” Sun Safety Initiative with the American Cancer Society. These are just a few of the ways our teams and partners are working together to make positive and lasting impacts in our MiLB communities. -
View Key Chapters of Casey's Life
Proposal by Toni Mollett, [email protected]; (775) 323-6776 “There comes a time in every man’s life, and I’ve had plenty of them.” — Casey Stengel KEY CHAPTERS IN CASEY’S LIFE AT BAT, IN THE FIELD, THE DUGOUT, THE NATION’S HEART 1910-12: Born in 1890 in Kansas City, Missouri, Charles Dillon Stengel, nicknamed “Dutch,” excels in sports. His father is a successful insurance salesman and his son has a happy childhood, playing sandlot baseball and leading Central High School’s baseball team to the state championship. To save money for dental school, Stengel plays minor-league baseball in 1910 and 1911 as a left-handed throwing and batting outfielder, first with the Kansas City Blues of the American Association. At 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, he is fast if not physically overpowering. A popular baseball poem at the time is “Casey At the Bat,” that, plus the initials of his hometown, eventually garner him a new moniker. Casey finds his courses at Western Dental College in Kansas City problematic with the dearth of left-handed instruments. The Brooklyn Robins (later the Dodgers) show him a different career path, drafting him and sending him to the Montgomery, Alabama, a club in the Southern Association. He develops a reputation for eccentricity. In the outfield one game, he hides in a shallow hole covered by a lid, and suddenly pops out in time to catch a fly ball. A decent batter and talented base stealer, Casey is called up by Brooklyn late in the season. In his first game, he smacks four singles and steals two bases. -
Wagner College Graduates 721
A8 SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2018 STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE SILIVE.COM A total of 721 degrees were awarded, including bachelor’s, master’s, post-master’s certificates and first doctorate degrees at Wagner College’s commencement ceremony yesterday. Jan Somma, Staten Island Advance photos GRYMES HILL Wagner College graduates 721 Allie Griffin [email protected] Wagner College President Dr. Richard Guarasci told graduates at the school’s 133rd commencement ceremony Friday that he personally believes their generation will be the one to fix the sometimes divisive times of today. “You are a new generation capable of heal- ing our social divides, building a fair and just social order and it’s imperative that you rise to this historical moment,” he said to gradu- ates and their families. He mentioned his 4-month-old grand- daughter, Zoey, who is multi-ethnic, multi-racial, and he said he often thinks about how she will experience the world. “What gives me hope that her life will be one marked by meaning and honor is what I’ve learned here at Wagner — that your gen- eration is a generation of transformational leadership to honor the pledge in creating a world of liberty and justice for all,” Guarasci said. This year’s commencement was the 100th graduation ceremony held on Wagner Col- lege’s Grymes Hill campus. The school was founded in Rochester, New York, and moved to its current address in 1918. A total of 721 degrees were awarded, including bachelor’s, master’s, post-master’s certificates and first doctorate degrees. Graduates and their families sat outdoors for the ceremony, under a tent on Sutter Oval and were lucky with the beautiful, sunny weather.
