C) Brief Note i) District

Geography About Madhepura : District occupies an area of 1787 km² and has a population of 1,994,618 (as of 2011). It is surrounded by Araria and in the north, Khagaria and Bhagalpur district in the south, Purnia district in the east and in the West. It is situated in the Plains of River Koshi and located in the Northeastern part of at longitude between 25°. 34 to 26°.07' and latitude between 86° .19' to 87°.07'. Climate Condition is situated between 25' 31 and 26' 20 latitude and in the middle of 86'36 to 87'07 longitudes. The maximum temperature of this district ranges from 35 to 40 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature varies from 7 to 9 degree Celsius. The average rain fall in this district is 1300mm.

ii) Administrative

The present Madhepura district had already got the status of subdivision on 3rd Sep.1845 in which there were seven blocks. The present day Saharsa district was then a revenue circle of Madhepura at that time. When Saharsa became a district on 01/04/1954, Madhepura became its subdivision. Madhepura subdivision which had seven blocks at that time, was given the status of a district on 09/05/1981.On 21/05/83 Uda-kishunganj Block was upgraded and made a subdivision of Madhepura district in the name of Uda-kishunganj. Besides seven old blocks, four new blocks came in to existence in the year 1994. There were , Puraini, Bihariganj and Shankarpur. First thee blocks come under uda-kishunganj subdivision and last one is under Madhepura subdivision. Later on two more new blocks were constituted in the name of Ghailar and Gamaharia, under Madhepura subdivision in 1999.

According to the 2011 census Madhepura district has a population of 1,994,618, roughly equal to the nation of Slovenia. This gives it a ranking of 232nd in (out of a total of 640). The district has a population density of 1,116 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,890/sq mi) . Its population growth rate over the decade 2001- 2011 was 30.65%. Madhepura has a sex ratio of 914 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 53.78%

Climatic conditions : The district generally has almost humid climate. The winter season starts from November and lasts till February and January is the coldest month with the mean minimum temperature below 90c and the summer season starts from March and lasts till June. May is the hottest month when the maximum temperature reaches up to 400c. The monsoon season begins in the second half of June and lasts 26 until September and maximum annual rainfall falls during the monsoon season.The district gets some winter rains also. Rainfall As per the data available with the Directorate of Statistics and Evaluation of the State, the average annual rainfall in the district varies between 1,094.3 and 1,359 mm during 2006-09. Maximum rainfall occurs during the month of June to September when the district receives almost 80 percent of its average total rainfall. The district receives minimum rainfall during the month of December. Weather conditions become hot and humid during the rainy season. The average number of rainy days in district varies between 43.4 and 56.2 during 2006-09. For fourth comming parliamentry election 2019 is scheduled to be conducted during summer season. Therefore in Madhepura District no place will be inaccessible.
