Introduction

Reliable event timing In 2009 MYLAPS introduced the BibTag system at the Melbourne Marathon. After a very extensive period of testing a revolutionary timing tag installed on the athlete’s bib was a fact. We are constantly testing and analyzing on the reliability and accuracy of our systems. On top of that, all systems are equipped with a GPRS modem in order to provide a central overview of all timelines and to facilitate live timing services. Worldwide almost all major marathons trust on the MYLAPS quality and therefore MYLAPS is the partner of choice of for the following major city marathons: Boston, Chicago, Hong Kong (73.000 participants!), Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne, Sydney, Dubai, Beirut, Rotterdam and Madrid.

Ease of handling and logistics MYLAPS equipment is designed to be operated intuitively and can be installed and transported easily. All timelines can be managed from a central point using the mobile network. Bib printing and mounting of BibTag to bib services are available in cooperation with partners.

Timing solution

Efficiency and reliability are two important factors for a race organizer. In the last five years the MYLAPS BibTag system proved to deliver these two factors for every event where it has been used. The BibTag system is the timing-system with the timing Tag on the Bib. The BibTag is a lightweight UHF-Tag which is optimized for the running sports. A spacer is placed on the Tag for optimal detection and to make sure that the quality of the signal is clear in all conditions.

Runners only need to attach the bib number to their shirts like they are already used to. BibTags are disposable and do not need to be collected after the race. In other words: minimal pre-race handling, no post-race handling and ease of use for participants.

The last two years MYLAPS developed new solutions in order to make the BibTag system suitable for all mass participation active sport events. From Tag to Time, all has been optimized for the athlete and the organization.

By investing in the BibTag system no other timing systems are required to time cycling or triathlon events. These types of events can be timed with exactly the same system with the same guaranteed reliable results.

Included with the system is a free of charge software package in order to time the events. With the MYLAPS Timing & Scoring Software running on your laptop, you can operate all systems and process race results in a few mouse clicks or export results to 3rd party scoring software. Via the GPRS modem in the BibTag portable decoders you have remote access to all decoders used during your events so timing can easily be done from one location.

System updates For the BibTag system MYLAPS offers free of charge half yearly firmware updates and software updates for the MYLAPS Timing & Scoring software.

Support As a MYLAPS partner you always have access to free remote 24/7 support. Our dedicated support team is ready if needed via our emergency support line. Furthermore you have the opportunity to participate in webinars and the MYLAPS customer conference where we train and inform our partners on our current products and new developments.

Financials

The MYLAPS BibTag system is available in two versions: a 4 meter system and an 8 meter system. Based on the requirements as discussed the 4 meter system would be suitable for a start/ finish location. For future expansion an 8 meter setup might be of interest.

At every timeline the use a Main and a Backup system is recommended, especially for start and finish lines. With the use of a backup system we guarantee the highest MYLAPS detection rates.

Start numbers (optional) Bib production can also be arranged via MYLAPS. All we need is the actual Bib design and the requirements of the Bib.

The costs per Bib start from €0,50, this includes:

 Black and white printing on the back of bib (for medical passport)

Appendix 2 System components

BibTag Portable Decoder The BibTag Portable Decoder contains best-in-class UHF readers for processing high-density signals and filtering out any interference. It features a simple control panel with LED display for setting up the system, checking the system status, creating files to store race results, and setting the electronic starting gun.

In the MYLAPS Toolkit software it is possible to connect the electronic gun to the software. Modular Detection Mat The detection mat is the most flexible and easy-to-use solution for UHF-based timing locations. The setup allows uninterrupted timing locations of up to 16 meters (17,5 yards) width.

MYLAPS BibTag With the BibTag System, the timing system in the Tag is attached to the bib number. The BibTag is a lightweight, sports optimized UHF based RFID timing tag. It sends out a combined code, consisting of a category number (which can be specified by an event itself), and the start number as printed on the runner’s bib. The sports optimization is created with a spacer used between the BibTag and the athletes’ body to ensure the signal gets through clearly under all conditions. Benefits:  The tagnumber matches the bibnumber; easy handling pre-race  No need to collect the chip after the race: a fully disposable and bio degradable solution.

MYLAPS BibTag Scanner

Attach this MYLAPS USB to a laptop and a big screen at the Expo and all the participants which have collected their race pack can see their name and race number on a big screen. As you can see in the pictures below you can fully customize the panel to the event’s sponsors.

Many MYLAPS customers use this as a marketing tool for the event sponsors. Participants love this feature and almost every participant stops for a picture.
