The SaraAnn Buckley Fund

In December, beloved club member Sr. SaraAnn Buckley passed away after a short battle with cancer. Sr. SaraAnn was an avid sport fan who loved to play tennis. At the urging of her many tennis friends, Bass River has set up a fund in her name to help provide tennis lessons, equipment and other resources to deserving young tennis players. Donations can be made at the front desk or see any staffer for details.

2019 Was a Great Year at Bass River

Over the last 12 months, the club continued to make investments in our facility. We remodeled the coffee bar area with a new coffee machine, fridge and ice machine. Bass River updated the bulletin board with two 65” interactive screens and we developed our own electronic on-court scoring system. 6 of 10 courts got new divider nets and all 10 now how special “T” curtains where they meet the backstops. We started more club activities like our “WTT Friendship Cup”, our very high-level Laver Cup and teams and helped to start the SaraAnn Buckley Fund. The ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Event was a huge success again. We have now raised over $110,000.00 for this great cause. We call it “Ladies Night Out”. MAD is coming…See details in this newsletter. The Woody Classic, the Pro Am, Ladies Team Banquet and Men’s Team cookout were all a huge success.

New Year’s Day is MAD Member Appreciation Day

January 1st, New Year’s Day, will be Member Appreciation Day. MAD is an annual day where we get to show you how much we appreciate you being a member of our club. We’ll open our doors for court time at 10:00 am and be open until 7-7:30 pm. All court time is FREE on this day. The club will put out some food and drinks. We hope you’ll come by and visit with us. Court time can be reserved in the usual manner. 3-day advanced booking. Call anytime from Sunday the 29th on to book. We ask our members adhere to two things: This is a member only day. No guests or non-members, please. Second, limit yourself to just one 90-minute court so that all members have the chance to book. If there are any open courts the morning of MAD, you may book a second court time, on us. The club will put out a light brunch starting around 11:00 and will have snacks through the day. More hot food will be out starting around 5:00. If you don’t feel up to playing, come by for a visit. Staff will be on hand and we look forward to talking to our members about how we are doing.

All of this and so much for coming for the 2020 season! January is Member Referral month!

January is “Member Referral” month. If you refer someone to Bass River and they take an Adult Membership during the month of January, you will receive a $50.00 Bass River Gift Card. North Shore League review

Bass River is having another fine season in the North Shore League. We boast more total teams than any other club in the league, and we compete well! Our NSL Men’s A-1 team is currently in 1st place in a very competitive division. With the admittance of 5.0 players, the league has become very strong. Bass River has an embarrassment of riches in the 5.0 slots. We hope to continue to dominate. The Men’s B team is fighting hard and looking for a strong 2nd half. Men’s B-1 is in playoff contention too. Bass River has two mixed doubles teams that play on Sunday afternoon. Currently we sit in 2nd and 4th place, so both teams are looking for a playoff berth. In our Ladies leagues, teams are off to one of our best starts in club history! We have 19 total lady’s teams and 14 of those are in the playoff hunt. A few more are not far behind. We have 3 teams leading their divisions, A2, A1 2 and A1 3 White. Great job to all the players and subs! We look forward to helping everyone improve their games and continuing toward to successful second half of the season.

Bass River welcomes two new employees this indoors season!

Bass River added two wonderful new employees. Winnie Rennie has been a Bass River member for several years. Winnie is a 30-year veteran of Law Enforcement. If she asked you to swipe in, I suggest you do . Justine Hoover is the number 1 singles and doubles players at Endicott College. A sophomore majoring in Education, she is a terrific addition to our desk staff. If you have not met either, please be sure to stop in and say hello. Justine Hoover Winnie Rennie

Bass River is back to 2 ball machines

Those of you who regularly use the club’s bass machines know that one of the machines recently broke down. It was a 20-year old machine that had served us well. On December 9th, the club took delivery of a refurbished machine. It is very similar to the previous one and much like the one we currently have in use. If you’ve never tried a ball machine, give it a go! It’s a great workout and you can really focus on polishing your skills. See any staffer for help with a machine. Bass River also runs Ball Machine Clinics from time to time. Be sure to watch the new screens by the desk for details about an upcoming session.
