Anderson was named the 13th coach in the program’s 71-year history on August 11, 2008. In his two seasons, Anderson has posted a 31-60- 1 record and has coached four players to All-Colonial Athletic Association honors, as well as one Major League Baseball Draft selection Anderson led the Pride to a 20-win season in 2010, despite fielding a team with 20 new players, including 15 freshmen. He kept the team in contention for a Colonial Athletic Association Championship berth until the second to last weekend of the season. The team was 10-14 in CAA play and finished eighth after being selected last in the preseason coaches’ poll. The 20 wins marked a nine-victory improvement over the 2009 season and the 10 CAA wins were four more than the previous season. Three players – Matt Prokopowicz, Ethan Paquette and Matt Ford – earned postseason recognition from the Colonial Athletic Association with Prokopowicz and Paquette garnering first team All-CAA honors, while Ford was named to the All-Rookie team. Paquette would go on to be selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 35th Round of the 2010 MLB Draft. Three individual team records were set in 2010 with Prokopowicz establishing himself as the program’s all-time hits leader with 271. In addition, Paquette established a new benchmark for RBIs in a season with 70, while reliever Jeff Guthridge set the single season appearance fewest since the 1987 squad posted 58 in just 27 games. In his first season (2009) Anderson coached his team to an 11-32 record, but saw Mark Stuckless blossom under his tutelage as the senior earned Colonial Athletic Association first team accolades and was the CAA Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year after flirting with a .400 batting average and led the Pride in batting (.392), hits (69), runs (43), doubles (11), triples (4) and home runs (5). During his short tenure Anderson has also helped improve the Pride’s facilities through fundraising initiatives. Through his efforts and the leadership and support of baseball alumnus Bruce Quinn ’86, the Quinn Family Grandstand was installed in 2010. Future plans for University Field include moving and raising the height of the outfield fences. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

Email:[email protected] MLB6 BOSTON SURGE Hall of Fame Boston closed the gap on the big two in the division following a successful week of Inter-league play. They opened with victory on the Kevin Reed, Dodgers road in Philadelphia, followed up with a cracking sweep on the road at the high flying Pirates and rounded the week off in style with a Ian Clark, Blue Jays home sweep of the Padres for an excellent 8-1 return. The Yankees in- creased their lead atop the AL East following another good week. Kevin Gibson, Mets They started with victory on the road in Montreal, followed with a hard fought sweep in Colorado but stumbled on the road in Pitts- burgh but even so their 6-3 week increases their lead by a game over Mike Sim, Rangers the Blue Jays. Toronto started well with a road wins in Atlanta and Cincinnati but defeat in their final series at home to the Dodgers only Alan Molloy, Giants gave them a solid 5-4 return and they slip a little further behind the Yankees. Tampa were crushed by the Mets in their opening series go- ing down to a big sweep. Further sweeps in San Francisco and at home to Cincinnati saw the end of Coach Houghton as the D-Rays went 0-9 but more of that later in the newsletter. Seattle could so easily been the headline makers this week as they mirrored the Red Sox excellent 8-1 week.
