FALL 2017 HCPS STATE INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC CHAMPIONS & SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNERS

Background Information:

Following the end of each of the fall, winter, and spring interscholastic sports seasons, the Board of Education of Harford County honors those individual Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) student-athletes and teams that have won Maryland Public Athletic Association (MPSSAA) championships by inviting them to attend a subsequent Board meeting to be honored. In addition, those teams that have been named by the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference (UCBAC) as winners of the Sportsmanship award receive plaques from the UCBAC and a certificate from the Board. Teams are chosen for the honor by vote of opposing coaches and players in each of the two divisions – Chesapeake and Susquehanna – in the conference.

Discussion:

During the 2017 fall interscholastic athletic season, one HCPS team won a MPSSAA state title. The C. Milton Wright High School Boys Soccer Team, coached by Brian Tully, Brian Gunter, Rob Bailey, and Joe Davis won the Class 3A state championship. Team members include: Zach Hetrick, Ryan Miller, Jake Spurlock, Nick Dunstan-Maiese, Jacob Crouse, Conner Appleby, Grayson Hichkad, Ryan Belfiore, Ryan Pavlitsa, Sean Fleming, Josh Witte, Ethan Dolezal, Jayson Butler, Eddie Arrison, Pierce Lloyd, Andrew Flaherty, Zach Heiderman, Bobby Zvitkovitz, Joe Canepa, Ryan Lindsey, Brett Lindsey, Donovan Abbott, Matteo Colamonaco, Ryan Roszko, and Paul Rose. The team manager is Eric Brettschnieder.

In addition, there were several individual state winners from HCPS for the sport of Cross Country:

 Kieran McDermott, Bel Air High School, Boys Cross Country, Classification 3A  Ashley Betz, Patterson Mill High School, Girls Cross Country, Classification 1A  Haley Cummins, C. Milton Wright, Girls Cross Country, Classification 3A

Harford teams winning 2017 Sportsmanship awards in the Chesapeake Division included C. Milton Wright High School (); North Harford High School (Boys Soccer, Football); Fallston High School (Field Hockey); Patterson Mill (Boys Cross Country); and Harford Technical High School (Girls Soccer).

Harford teams winning Sportsmanship awards in the Susquehanna Division included Harford Technical High School (Boys Cross Country) and Edgewood High School (Girls ).

Superintendent’s Recommendation:

The Superintendent recommends the Board of Education congratulate all the state and MPSSAA student-athletes and teams from Harford County Public Schools on their outstanding accomplishments. The Superintendent also recommends the Board congratulate the HCPS teams that earned Sportsmanship Awards in their divisions.
