Year 5 Parents

Dear Parents

Residential Visit to Swattenden: Final preparations

As you know our annual residential trip to Swattenden is soon upon us from 25th-27th September 2019. Whilst Mrs Brice will be talking to you in more detail at the Class Information sessions next week, we still have some pressing paperwork that needs to be completed before then.

Payment

Most parents have taken advantage of the payment card to spread the cost of this activity, however we still have many accounts outstanding. Please ensure that full payment is received before Friday 20th September.

Consent & Medical Forms

Please find attached 2 forms: one is a medical information sheet and the other your consent for your son/daughter to engage in activities at Swattenden. Please could these be completed and returned to either Mrs Brice or Mrs Morris no later than 12th September. We need to send these to the centre ahead of the trip.

Medication

If regular medication is needed during the week, please specify on the form and ensure that medication is given to me, clearly labelled with the name and dosage. If your son/daughter has a problem with occasional bed wetting, I would be grateful if you could discretely let me know; it may also be helpful if you could pack an extra pair of pyjamas just in case.

Drop Off/Collection

Please drop off your son/daughter at the Swattenden Centre at 11.15am on Wednesday 25th September. in the small car park next to the gate and do not proceed past the barriers. Mrs Brice, Mr Goodman & Mrs Morris will be waiting there to register. Once we have everybody, we will proceed to the accommodation on foot with baggage. Collection is on Friday at the same place as the drop off at 2pm prompt please.

Activities

Although we don’t have the final programme, activities include: archery, low zip wire, high ropes, bivouac building, rafting, an evening walk, adventure courses and a climbing wall. All activities are run by fully qualified Kent County Council (KCC) staff.

Kits List & Top Tips

A kit list is also attached, but to help you and your son/daughter prepare, please see the additional guidance and tips below.

 Label everything including underwear, Wellingtons etc – it is amazing how many items of unnamed clothing we have to deal with during the 3 days.  Pack your child’s bag together. I know it sounds obvious but they do need to know where their belongings are, especially wash bags and nightwear! It will also help them with the packing for home on Friday.  Make sure your child can carry their own bag; they need to be able to walk it to the accommodation 300m away.  When the children are in their rooms, their first task is to make their bed. Please practise putting a pillowcase onto a pillow and how to put a duvet into a duvet cover. A classic skill for life!

Swattenden is a fantastic opportunity for the class to be outdoors, challenge themselves individually and as a team. Most of all we hope to have a lot of fun, come rain or shine. If you have any questions or worries whatsoever, please see Mrs Brice or Mr Goodman. Better still, please do try and attend the information sessions next week when we will provide you with more details and answer questions.

Yours sincerely,

Pete Goodman Assistant Headteacher (Quality of Education)
