Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2018 hingga Maret 2019 dengan metode jelajah di sekitar Air Terjun Parangkikis Pagerwojo, Tulungagung. Identifikasi Marchantiophyta dilakukan di Laboratorium IPA Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan IAIN Tulungagung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa di kawasan Air Terjun Parangkikis terdapat dua kelas, yaitu Marchantiopsida dan Jungermanniopsida. Pada kelas Marchantiopsida hanya terdapat satu ordo, yaitu Marchantiales. Sedangkan pada kelas Jungermanniopsida meliputi tiga ordo yaitu Jungermanniales, Porellales, dan Pallviciniales. Kata kunci- Air Terjun Parangkikis, Keanekaragaman, Marchantiophyta PENDAHULUAN Tumbuhan lumut merupakan salah satu tumbuhan yang memiliki keanekaragaman cukup tinggi. Lumut merupakan kelompok tumbuhan yang berukuran kecil yang tempat tumbuhnya menempel pada berbagai substrat seperti pohon, serasah, kayu mati, kayu lapuk, tanah, maupun bebatuan. Lumut dapat tumbuh pada lingkungan lembab dengan penyinaran yang cukup [1]. Secara ekologis lumut berperan penting di dalam fungsi ekosistem. Tumbuhan lumut dapat digunakan sebagai bioindikator lingkungan yang menentukan lingkungan tersebut masih terjaga dengan baik atau sudah tereksploitasi [2]. Lumut hati dapat berfungsi sebagai bioakumulator logam berat [3] dan inhibitor pertumbuhan protozoa [4]. Air Terjun Parangkikis merupakan salah satu daerah pegunungan di Desa Gambiran Kecamatan Pagerwojo Kabupaten Tulungagung yang kaya dengan berbagai jenis lumut. Namun, penelitian tumbuhan lumut di kawasan tersebut belum banyak dilakukan. -

Pho- tograph by Karen Bean. he people who create museum exhibits strive to grab attention. That’s not so simple when budgets have slimmed, but visitors’ expectations have remained super-sized. At The Field Museum in Chicago, exhibition development director TMatt Matcuk and his team recently found one way. While assembling the temporary exhibit The Romance of Ants, they stuck to some fundamentals: the universal love of story and people’s inherent interest in others. They also made it fresh by mixing media, including a comic-book style narrative and museum-grade photographs by University of Illinois biologist Alex Wild. A passion for science is conveyed through the real-life journey of Corrie Moreau, an entomologist and a museum assistant curator. Alexandra Westrich, an artist and aspiring entomologist working in Moreau’s laboratory, created the art- work. The exhibit, including the edited portion shown here, will be on view in Chicago through 2011. Moreau and Westrich described their backgrounds and this nontraditional project to American Scientist associate editor Catherine Clabby. -

Abstract Grazing by wild and domestic mammals can have small to large effects on plant communities, depend- ing on characteristics of the particular community and of the type and intensity of grazing. The broad objective of this report was to extensively review literature on the effects of grazing on 25 plant commu- nities of the southwestern U.S. in terms of plant species composition, aboveground primary productiv- ity, and root and soil attributes. Livestock grazing management and grazing systems are assessed, as are effects of small and large native mammals and feral species, when data are available. Emphasis is placed on the evolutionary history of grazing and productivity of the particular communities as deter- minants of response. After reviewing available studies for each community type, we compare changes in species composition with grazing among community types. Comparisons are also made between southwestern communities with a relatively short history of grazing and communities of the adjacent Great Plains with a long evolutionary history of grazing. Evidence for grazing as a factor in shifts from grasslands to shrublands is considered. An appendix outlines a new community classification system, which is followed in describing grazing impacts in prior sections. -

The combination of its diagnostic characters including discoid homogamous capitula, alveolate epaleate receptacles, and deeply trifid leaves, is not found in any other species of South American Astereae. An ITS phylogenic analysis placed Kieslingia chilensis within subtribe Hinterhuberinae, and sister to the genus Guynesomia, also endemic to Chile. The morphological characteristics of Kieslingia chilensis are compared and contrasted to sister taxa as identified by the molecular phylogenetic studies and the environmental features of the area where the species is found are discussed. A key to distinguish Kieslingia from other Astereae genera of northern Chile is given. -
