Mr Rabjohn, who died this year, aged 93, began work at St James’s School, East Malling in 1948, moving to Blacklands School in Mill Street when St James’s closed, where he taught until his retirement in 1985. He was also a parish councillor in the 1960s. Former pupils held lasting affection for him and many donated to the funding of the seat as a tribute to him. The bench is inscribed: “To the Wonderful Douglas Rabjohn 1921- 2015”, on the back rail and: “To Sir, with love” on the seat rail.
