C284. Hon Diane Evers to the Minister for Regional Development representing the Minister for Water
I refer to the Vasse-Wonnerup Water Quality Plan (2010) and I ask;
1. When was the last time a progress report was prepared on the implementation of this plan or has the plan been updated? a. Will the Minister table a copy any progress report or update? 2. Ifno, why not? ~ 3. Is the plan meeting its targets for water quality in the Vasse and Wonnerup estuaries as per the tables on pages 53 and 54? 4. Have any reports been completed in the past 5 years on the water quality trends in the Vasse and Wonnerup estuaries? a. If yes, will the Minister please table a copy? b. Ifno, why not? 5. Is the Minister aware of serious, recurring eutrophication problems in the Vasse and Wonnerup estuaries? a. If yes, what actions are being undertaken to remediate this?
Answer
(1) Fourteen sub catchment reports which include a sub-catchment water quality trend report were prepared and are publically available. The Water Quality Improvement Plan is currently being updated and is scheduled to be completed by December 2020 as part of Revitalising Geographe Waterways.
(a) The progress report cards are available on the Revitalising Geographe Waterways website, accessible via https://rgw.dwer. wa. gov.au/geographe-waterways/.

(3) The targets have not yet been met as they are long term targets which may take some years to achieve. The targets were also set on the basis of preliminary work. New mo ling is occurring as part of the updated plan and will guide the setting of new targets pos 2 . J

(5) I am aware that the Lower Vasse River and the estuaries in the Geographe catchment continue to show signs of recun'ing eutrophication and their recovery is a long term work program.
(a) I am continuing to support the Vasse Taskforce which is chaired by Hon Dr Sally Talbot MLC, Member for South West Region. I am provided with briefings from the Chair and also the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation on the progress of the work. The Govemment made available a further $1.6 million in the 2019-20 budget for ongoing work on Revitalising Geographe Waterways. Geographe Waterways - Sub catchment report cards
