HISTORY AND AIM OF THE UNIVERSITY
Kakatiya University was established on 20th August, 1976, situated in 640 acres campus at Warangal, with the aim of imparting higher and technical education in the region of North Telangana. In the last thirty six years, KU has produced highly professional and competitive academicians by infusing greater quality and content into the curriculum and educating the students with appropriate skills suitable for a rapidly changing global scenario. To improve the Quality of Higher and Technological Education, it has participated actively in a number of National Programmes like Teacher Quality Improvement Programme, University–industry-interaction through consultancy, Continuing Education Programmes and Expansion of Infrastructure facilities for Emerging Technologies. Distance Education programmes in various UG and PG were started by the University in the correspondence-cum-contact mode, in 1989. University has established a number of higher learning institutes such as KU college of Engineering and Technology in the year 2009 and PG College for Women in the year 2012.
To focus on Foreign Relations and Research, the University has established Centre for Foreign Relations, Research & Consultancy (CFRAC).

The objectives of the Kakatiya University, Warangal are as follows:
1. To provide the advancement of learning and knowledge in various UG, PG, Professional courses Engineering & Technology, Physical & Social Sciences by teaching, training, research and experimentation or practical training or by such other means as the University may deem fit.
2. To provide that form of education which allows students to spend periods of intramural work so that upon graduation they possess a range of academic learning as well as social awareness.
3. To promote.
i) Thinking on new concepts, techniques, practices in the relevant fields of knowledge and their application to indigenous condition;
ii) Designing and organizing of new courses of study and training, evaluation and examination system;
iii) Research relevant to the economic growth of the country; entrepreneurship among the students of the Constituent Colleges/Units; and
iv) Industrial consultancy services in the different faculties of the Colleges/Units.
Administrative Profile:
The Governor of Andhra Pradesh is the Chancellor of the University. The Vice-
Chancellor is the Academic Head and Principal Executive officer of the University. The
Executive Council of the University is the Highest Body mainly concerned with the overall management of the University. Members of this council are drawn from Government and
Academicians from within the University and experts from outside. The Vice-Chancellor of the
University is the Chairman of the Executive Council.
Advisory Bodies:
The Executive Council is assisted by Academic Senate, Planning and Monitoring Board, Finance Committee and Selection Committee. The Academic Senate advises the Executive Council on matters relating to the Faculty, Curriculum, and evaluation methods.
Boards of Studies:
Different faculties have Board of Studies headed by a Chairman and Members drawn from academics all the decision of the Boards of Studies will be put to the Academic Senate for its approval. Finance Committee:
The Finance committee advises on all matters relating to the finances and budget of the University.
Selection Committee:
All faculty Positions are filled on the recommendations of a duly constituted Selection Committee as per Statutes.
Financial Structure:
The Maintenance grants of the University are received from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. In addition, Department of Science and Technology (DST), University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) support research and developmental projects. Further the University raises finance through self supporting programmes such as Distance & Continuing Education, P.G. Programmes, Consultancy Services and funded projects.
