Match Report - Round 11 vs Pines

Seniors Crowds were back for our clash with arch rivals The Pines at Shark Park.

Sharks dominated the first 3 quarters, looking good across the ground and went into the final break with a handy 22 point lead. Myles Poholke was everywhere, James Brigden was giving us plenty up forward, whilst Imo Jackson and Liam Fraser were solid down back. However, as has been a recurring theme during 2021, a dismal last quarter proved costly with Pine kicking 6 goals including a last minute goal after a controversial 50 year penalty whilst left the Sharks 5 points short at the final siren.

Very disappointing after domination much of the Marcus Gardiner – Seniors Best on Ground game. Marcus Gardiner was super all day, Nosey Dobrowolski battled hard all day, whilst Mickey Walker continued his impressive form. Reserves

Final Scores We entered the game with a number of players Sorrento 11.8-74 underdone. Angus Sass Callaghan & Will Tucker Pines 12.7-79 were playing their first games for the season, whilst Captain Trev Mattison & Alex Bird were Goal Kickers: J. Brigden 3, M. Poholke 2, M. Peric, back from a few weeks out. M. Dobrowolski, J. Hallahan, S. Gladman, N. Corp, M. Walker After 3 tight quarters we played excellent, disciplined footy in the last quarter to win the Best Players: M. Gardner, M. Dobrowolski, M. game. Poholke, I. Jackson, L. Frazer, M. Walker Well done to Harry Batten, Kenny King, Paddy Hall & Lukey Bakewell in the midfield. Alex May led our defence, which kept Pines goalless in the last half, whilst Anthony Ringa-ding ding kicked 3 valuable goals up forward. Jack Burford’s chasing & tackling of opponents was a highlight.

We are a week-to-week proposition depending on injuries to our list. But hopefully we can head to Edi-Asp this week with a similar squad. Murray Browne – Reserves Coach Under 19s

Final Scores It's been a while but we recorded another win Sorrento 7.7-49 today to make it 2 in a row vs The Pines. Pines 4.11-35 The Pines came out very strongly and by qtr time Goal Kickers: A. Ring 3, M. King 2, N. McLardy, J. we were down by 4-5 goals. Sam Wilson and Fin Burford Clarke battled really well in the first qtr as we struggled to score. Best Players: H. Batten, K. King, L. Bakewell, P. In the 2nd qtr, we started to even up the game Gorman, J. Burford, A. Ring but were still struggling to kick goals but the game did feel more even and we felt if we held the ball and controlled possession we could work back into the game. All year our backline has been very tight and we are rarely seeing forwards kick goals ..... our opposition are kicking goals from the midfield and today was the same.

James Nevinson and Boston Riley went into the middle and we started to take control just before 1/2 time.

After half time we "clicked" and really started to take control of the game. Jarvis Espie moved up the ground after a long layoff with injury and was instrumental in in getting centre square clearances. Fergus Anderson started getting plenty of the ball. Charlie Stokes went to a wing and became more damaging further up the ground.

It may have been cold on Saturday, but Ringa was Matt Doherty presented well and with better in red hot form with 3 majors!!! delivery we managed to get many good chains of ball movement and kicked away. More of the same in the last quarter kicking with the wind and

despite a late scare - not helped by an undisciplined 50m penalty we recorded a cone

from behind win.

Boston Riley, (BOG 2 weeks in a row), Fergus Anderson and James Nevinson were in the best with Jarvis Espie, Fin Clarke and Charlie Stokes all playing very well Shark Bites Editor – David Caspar Page 2 of 11 Any news, suggestions, or comments, David MacFarlan Recreation Reserve please email to [email protected] P.O.
