& Rainbows Report for Annual General Meeting 2017

Acklam Rainbows

Our unit continues to thrive and we have a healthy waiting list. Many of our girls have gone on to become Brownies and Guides which proves Girl Guiding is still popular. Throughout the year our meetings have included all parts of the Rainbow Jigsaw Programme in our games arts and crafts, cooking and parties.

In April we had a birthday party to celebrate our Queen’s 90th birthday, we all wore red, white and blue clothes and got a special badge.

In July our summer party had a wedding theme because one our leaders, Hannah Walters, married Peter Grant at St Mary’s Church. The Rainbows and leaders all dressed up in bridesmaid or party dresses, we ate wedding cake and drank sparkling lemonade from champagne glasses. We wish Hannah and Peter a long and happy married life together.

49th Middlesbrough (Stainsby) Brownies

Our Brownies meet every Wednesday evening during term time from 5.30pm - 7pm in Acklam Grange School. As half of our members moved on to Guides over the summer break we currently have room for more girls

We have spent another busy year - the following being some of the highlghts:

We spent one weekend in April at Egton guide house where all the activities followed the theme of Brazil and the Olympic Games. The girls joined in craft activities, games and a quiz and also helped with all of the cooking and cleaning.

The girls also worked towards Adventure and Interest badges with all of the girls gaining their Craft, Fire safety and Agility badges.

In September we joined others from Middlesbrough Division on a trip to South Lakes Safari Park and in November we held our fund raising Coffee Evening after making items to sell.

We ended the year carol singing at Acklam Court (having already made cards and shopping list pads to take for the residents) and with the usual Christmas party.

25th Middlesbrough Brownies

The Brownies have been busy again throughout the past year. We have a total of 16 girls, though 4 will leave at Easter to move on to Guides or Scouts. 2 new Brownies will be joining us from Rainbows after Easter.

We have been lucky to recruit 2 leaders in training via the Volunteer’s service at Teesside University and also have two young leaders with us completing the service portion of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award who are all settling in to the unit well.

In the past year we have visited South Lakes Safari Park with the rest of Middlesbrough division, where the highlight was definitely hand-feeding lemurs. We also joined with the other units associated with the church to celebrate Thinking Day in February.

The Brownie programme is changing over the coming years and we were invited to test an activity which involved some creative storytelling with sock puppets.

We have continued to work towards badges both individually and as a group, and are currently working on the "Smoggie Challenge" created by guides in Park End, celebrating all things 'Boro. This badge work will finish just before Easter with, what else? A parmo and a lemon top of course.

43rd Middlesbrough Group Report for Annual General Meeting 2017

Again, another busy year, with a full programme of activities enjoyed by an increased number of around 80 young people. The Cubs held their now traditional Dads and Lads weekend at Carlton and the Group as a whole had a camp at Hesley Wood, near Sheffield, which also included sleepover for the . The Explorer scouts enjoyed being part of the Group Camp, as well as having their own camp at Kildale and a weekend at the Pybus Centre, near Kirby.

Some of the Explorer Scouts continue to help us on their Young Leader programme, but, as always, we would appreciate additional adult support – if anyone is interested in finding out more about what is involved, please contact me, or any other Leader.
