Dear Pilots, The Letter "I" There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance, Between self-esteem and selfishness. Sometimes we cannot forego our ego. Let us remember that the difference between success and failure is often determined by each individual's PI Executive Committee: President Winnie Brewer; President- Elect Judy Langley; Vice President Sherry Johnson; Secretary willingness to put down the needs of the group ahead Shannon Clegg; Treasurer Suzanne Kendra; Director Mimi Wold of his or her own. and Director Bonnie Turner. The need to run a group may result in the ruin of the group. Because the only difference between run and ruin is the letter "I". — From “Giving Thanks” by Harvey M. Haber & Hi Pilots, Wayne R. All funds from the training day and the election day benefit The Pilot Club. This is an excellent opportunity to meet people and "talk pilot" as well as bringing in funds for projects.

Over 700 participants are ex- pected to compete for over 100 medals and trophies. 100% of the sponsorship funds benefit community projects with the focus on traumatic brain injuries and brain disorders. 6 Cindy Lopez is the newly installed president of the Pilot Club of Fort My- ers. Serving with her will be Linda Hessler, president-elect; Nancy Campbell, treasurer; Mary Ellen Murphy, secretary; Fran D’Allessandro, Patsy Tortora and Betty Busbee, directors. The Fort Myers Club recently presented a check to IMPACT, a school for special needs children. The school is not part of the public school system and receives limited funding from that source. Several years ago the club was awarded Pilot grants to provide a Sensory Stimulation room for these children and play ground equipment. Since new equipment is needed for the stimulation room, the club will try to find a way to fund this need. The club also presented a check to the Children’s Network of Southwest Florida, a non-profit agency which provides child welfare services in a five-county area. A check was previously presented to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for Project Life Saver. Three members of the Pilot Club of Fort Myers attended the Florida Coalition for Children Conference in Orlando recently. They were Nadereh Salim, who is CEO of the Children’s Network of Southwest Florida CNSWFL; Aimee McLaughlin, Publicity Coordinator for CNSWFL and Betty Busbee, Chair of the CNSWFL Board. This was the Co- alition ‘s 60th Anniversary. Nadereh served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the Gala Awards Ceremony while Aimee circulated to take many pictures. All past award winners were listed on posters outside the banquet room, and Betty was listed as a past winner of the Lifetime Achievement award. Several members of the club volunteered to assist with swimming and bowling for the Special Olympics. Plans are also being made for a Wish List shower for the young ladies at the Gresham-Kit Pilot Scholarship House at Florida Gulf Coast University to celebrate the house‘s tenth anniversary. Alison Hussey, member of the Pilot Club of Fort Myers and a local attorney, has achieved certification as a circuit medi- ator for the 20th Judicial Circuit by the Supreme Court of Florida. In this role, Alison serves as a neutral third party facilitating communication between parties involved in a dispute to help them resolve differences outside the court system. She will provide mediation services in a variety of practice areas, including probate and guardianship. Alison has also been named treasurer of the Rotary Club of Cape Coral, FL, and serves as chair of the Rotary Foundation Ambassa- dorial Scholar Committee of District 6960, an eight county district. Claire is up and about early and saw a different view of Vegas — no crowds, but still a lot of action going on!! Here she is at 6:00 a.m. standing outside of the Bellagio fountain area, with Bally’s and Paris in the background.

Charlotte, representing the Pilot Scholarship House Foundation (PSHF), spoke to the Florida District Pilots at the District meeting, letting them know about the Cruise Raffle.

And Karol had the opportunity to do what most people do when they go to Vegas —

Charlotte and Claire had the opportunity to meet with Gene Saunders, founder of Project Lifesaver. The Pilot Club of Tallahassee partners with the Alzheimer’s Project, Inc. and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for Project Lifesaver. Through grants, their club was able to start Project Lifesav- er in Tallahassee. Pictured left to right: Charlotte, Gene Saunders and Claire

On Friday August 10, the Pilot Club of Ft Pierce/PSL held the 3rd of four “Karaoke Showcase of the ” FUN- raising events at Riverwalk Center in Ft Pierce. This activity is aimed at reaching a different segment of our com- munity than we usually target. Experienced Kara- oke singers were recruited by DJ Chris Colbin of Space for SHARE PILOT Loony Tunes Karaoke. It was great family fun, with children break-dancing to the adults’ singing on stage. Our 4th and final Karaoke event for 2012 will be held on December 14. The proceeds from these will be used to fund our scholarships, given each spring. What a fun time we all had! From the great singers and music, to all of the Pilots who came to help with the set-up and clean-up. Everyone who participated had an awesome time. Thank you, Shannon, for the great face painting. The kids always love her! Food, fun, friends and music, who could ask for a better time.
