Such a small word. God. A word used millions of times each day. God. Sometimes as an expletive, sometimes an expression of pleasure, sometimes deep shock, many times spoken in prayer. Whatever the word means or doesn’t mean to you, we all use it every day. For me, God is the ‘Otherness’, that sense, that understanding, that belief, that there is more to life than the right here, right now. God is a mystery; for God to be God He must always be beyond our human understanding, beyond our imagination. For me, God is the creator of all that is around us; the grasses, the flowers, the trees and their fruits, the animals of the land sea and air. God reveals Himself in and through creation. God is the creator of each one of us. For me, God is the one who loves us completely, unconditionally. Not just emotionally but practically. When faced with a crowd of over five thousand God in Jesus provided them with food. When people came to Him with their problems and diseases, He healed them. It is through Jesus that God has shown us the full extent of His love. And He invites us to have that love at the centre of our lives, for that love to be the foundation of all that we do and think and say. St Paul writes: And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3: 17-19 God, such a small word that describes an ‘Otherness’, something beyond our understanding, someone who surrounds us in His creation, who surrounds us with His unconditional love, who invites to know and experience that love for ourselves. The God who laid the earth’s foundations, the God who’s Lord of every nation, the God who tends each generation is here. The God who makes his home inside us, the God who teaches and inspires us, the God who leads and guards and guides us is here, is here. CCLI Song No 7126847. For the team themselves, this gesture is to highlight the racism that still exists in and around football – the abuse given to individual players; the racist chanting that comes from the terraces; online racist and abusive comments. It is a sad indictment of our culture that the way someone looks, in this case skin colour, still informs our interaction with them and our valuing of them.

I got very excited when the keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman played our keyboard during an after-dinner speech. I was going to get him to put his signature across it as a memory of the event but didn’t have a marker pen available. Of course, Shadingfield had the excitement a few years ago of welcoming the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and his family to join in their worship.

Waveney District Council Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sports Facilities Strategy CONSULTATION SUMMARY DOCUMENT January 2014 The purpose of this document This document summarises the draft ‘Waveney Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sports Facilities Strategy’ to seek the views of local stakeholders. The full document can be accessed via Waveney District Council’s website - www.waveney.gov.uk. The objectives of the strategy 1) The objectives of the strategy are to: • To identify the existing quantity and quality of pitches and outdoor sports facilities in Waveney district. • To identify areas with a deficiency or surplus of provision. • To review existing local standards of provision and accessibility. • To identify the potential for shared use of facilities. • To make recommendations for the provision, protection and improvement for playing pitches and outdoor sports facilities across the district. • To recommend sport facilities that should be provided at Oakes Farm. What the strategy covers 2) The strategy covers the following pitches and facilities in Waveney district: • Football (mini, youth, adult). • Cricket. • Rugby Union (mini, junior, adult). • Hockey (Artificial Turf Pitches). • Athletics tracks. • Bowling greens. • Netball courts. • Tennis courts. About Waveney 3) Population - The current population of Waveney is 115,300. The relatively aged population structure is likely to reduce relative demand in the district for the sports that use playing pitches. However, demand for sports like bowls with a relatively elderly participation profile, are likely to be inflated. 4) Ethnicity - The ethnicity of 97.7% of the population is classified as ‘White’. Black and minority ethnic groups traditionally have lower rates of involvement in physical activity, so demand levels in a predominantly White population should normally generate above average demand.

    Community transport in Wissett bact community transport runs the following services in the Wissett area of the Waveney district. The Connecting Bus Between 0930 and 1600 on Thursdays, the Connecting Bus covers the following parishes: Bungay, Flixton, Halesworth, The Saints, Rumbergh, Ilketshall St Margaret and Wissett. Between 0930 and 1600 on Fridays and Saturdays, the Connecting Bus covers the following parishes: Barsham, Beccles, Brampton with Stoven, Bungay, Halesworth, Holton, Ilketshall St Andrew, Ilketshall St John, Ilketshall St Lawrence, Mettingham, Redisham, Ringsfield, Shadingfield, Shipmeadow, Sotherton, Spexhall, Westhall, Weston, and Wissett. The Connecting Bus allows people to request any journey within the area above and anyone can use the service. Pick up is from a safe location near your home: a bus stop or the end of your road. Fares are similar to those on buses, under 20s have reduced fares and concessionary passes are valid after 0930. Door to door (formerly called Dial a Ride) Between 0930 and 1600 on Mondays, the door to door service enables eligible registered members to request transport from their home to their final destination for journeys within the parishes of Bungay, Flixton, Halesworth, The Saints, Rumbergh, Ilketshall St Margaret, Spexhall and Wissett. Fares are reasonable but concessionary passes cannot be used. Community car service The car service operates up to seven days a week, depending on the availability of volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles. Anyone may ask to use the service to make journeys for which neither a car, nor public transport, is available. The fare is based on the distance travelled. The distance is from between the driver’s home to the place where you are picked up and on to your destination and back to the driver’s home.

The great conundrum. Beacons, declaring the presence of God in our communities. Loved by, and precious to, our villages. Holy places, drenched in hundreds of years of prayer and worship. Sacred spaces, where we meet to encounter God in the stillness and the quiet. We need our buildings, these beacons, these holy places, these sacred spaces. But God doesn’t. ‘… did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’ 2 Samuel 7: 7 God is omnipresent, with us at all times and in all places.
