new leaders, the senate elected Jonathan Antonio, a second-year business student and candidate for student body treasurer, to serve as the new president pro tempore. Payne’s impeachment proceedings were scheduled to take place at Wednesday’s meeting, but charges were dropped in light of Payne’s resignation. Sen. David Ensor, a third-year political science and math student, filed impeachment charges against Payne in January. “Filing impeachment charges was the last thing I wanted to do,” Ensor said. Ensor, who also served on the Court of Impeachment, said the court would have announced a recommendation for impeachment to the senate at Wednesday’s meeting, following deliberation on Friday. “I think it was the best way for things to end,” Ensor said.
