Applying for a secondary school: key facts 2019/2020 Introduction

We understand that moving from primary to secondary school can be an anxious time for you and your child. We know that you want to choose the school that is right for your child and that enables them to reach their true potential. This short booklet aims to help you to do that by giving you key information about local secondary schools, how to make an application and what happens once you receive your offer of a school place. You will also need to read the Applying for a secondary school guide, this can be found online at www..gov.uk/admissions. It is important that you take the time to read this as it contains information about the way that places are allocated. It also includes details of how we check your home address, details of free school transport and free school meals, what happens if you move house during the application process and what happens if your application is late. At the back of this booklet you will find a useful checklist that will help guide you through the application process.

Things to do Tick when Notes completed

1. Read the Applying for a secondary school guide which can be found online at leicester.gov.uk/admissions.

2. Check details of the school open days shown in this booklet so that I can visit the schools with my child.

3. Check the school’s website to find out if a supplementary form needs to be returned directly to the school, for example – if applying on faith grounds.

4. Read details about support sessions that are being held if I need help with making an online application. Details of these are in this booklet.

5. Used all three preferences and realise that using one preference only does not increase my chances of gaining a place at a preferred school.
