March 30, 2011 Highway projects hit the road in southern Ongoing highway investment supports economic growth

Lethbridge... Highway projects are ready to begin in for the 2011 construction season.

“This is about making the right investments at the right time,” said Luke Ouellette, Minister of Transportation. “We will continue to build and take advantage of lower overall construction costs because when we keep building, we keep Albertans working, support our communities and lay the foundation for future economic growth.” Major new projects in southern Alberta include: Highway 1 - Selective repaving of 85 kilometres between Bassano and Suffield. Highway 2 - Realigning and reconstructing 5.5 kilometres of the highway and removing the railway overpass north of Nanton. Highways 23 and 24 - Repaving 66 kilometres between and High River. Highway 41 - Repaving 70 kilometres between Highways 570 and 545 west of Empress. Highway 56 - Repaving 22 kilometres between Highway 1 and Hussar. Highway 61 - Widening and reconstruction of 14 kilometres between Foremost and Etzikom. Highway 529 - Converting 20 kilometres from gravel to pavement between the Little Bow Provincial Park access and Highway 845 east of Champion. Highway 885 - Repaving 30 kilometres between Highways 3 and 61 south of Bow Island. In 2011, the Alberta government will invest $1.7 billion in the provincial highway network.
