												ABSTRACT Oxalis Triangularis (A.St.-Hil) Or Commonly Known As
ABSTRACT Oxalis triangularis (A.St.-Hil) or commonly known as ‘Pokok Rama-rama’ in Malaysia is a beautiful ornamental plant which is propagated by bulbs. The plant grows to a height of 0.1 m - 0.2 m and is perfect for cultivating in pots or containers. Nowadays, with the emerging and advanced technologies, an efficient protocol has been established for a rapid multiplication of Oxalis triangularis in a large scale production under aseptic conditions. In vitro plant regeneration of Oxalis triangularis was successfully obtained in the present study via petiole and leaf as explants. The petiole explants cultured on MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l α-Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and 1.0 mg/l Kinetin (KIN) produced maximum number of adventitious shoots (12 shoots) while for leaf explants, the best treatment achieved on MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/l NAA and 1.5 mg/l 6- Benzylaminopurine (BAP) which produced a maximum of 14 shoots within 8 weeks. Comparison between in vivo plants and in vitro was observed using a Scanning Electron Microscope. The morphological features for both petiole and leaf samples have no differences. Both contain same structures of stomata and trichomes. In vitro flowering which is very important in order to improve quality and shortened physiological process of flowering was observed when adventitious shoots explants cultured on MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l NAA and 0.5 mg/l BAP (90% in vitro flowering). In the synthetic seeds study, two different storage durations were tested (Day 7 and Day 30). The highest frequency of synthetic seeds production in Oxalis triangularis was recorded on Day 7 with 96.67% of conversion frequency. -

La Segunda Reunión de Botánica Peninsular por E. FERNANDEZ-GALIANO Desde que en julio de 1948 se celebró en Portugal la prime- ra Reunión de Botánica Peninsular, fue preocupación constante de los botánicos españoles el corresponder a las amabilidades de nuestros colegas portugueses, y dar así cumplimiento a uno de los acuerdos adoptados en dicha primera Reunión, el de repetirse periódicamente los contactos entre los botánicos de ambos países. Después de vencer múltiples dificultades, pudo realizarse nuestra reunión en Aragón, de los días 16 al 30 de junio de 1955, aprovechando también la estancia de nuestros colegas portugue- ses para rendir un homenaje a los numerosos botánicos oriundos de la región aragonesa que tanto contribuyeron al progreso de la ciencia botánica española. Con notable retraso, motivado por el tiempo empleado en la preparación de los diversos trabajos que lo componen, se publi- ca hoy el presente resumen de dicha excursión, y creemos opor- tuno reseñar aquí la crónica de la excursión transcribiendo los diferentes discursos que en las diversas conmemoraciones se pronunciaron. Salieron los participantes de Madrid a las tres de la tarde del jueves 16 de junio, camino de Calatayud, en donde aquella mis- ma tarde se celebró una sesión de homenaje a los botánicos don Benito Vicioso, natural de dicha ciudad, Lázaro Ibiza y Calavia (naturales de Aranda del Moncayo). Intervinieron como oradores el doctor José Galindo, en representación de Estudios Bilbilita- iios, don Carlos Vicioso (hijo del primer botánico homenajeado, IV ANALES DEL I. BOTÁNICO A. J. CAVANILLES y participante en nuestra excursión), y don Cayetano Cortés La- torre, que recordó en su discurso a don Blas Lázaro Ibiza, y cuya disertación figura publicada aparte en este mismo tomo de los ANALES. -

Outline of angiosperm phylogeny: orders, families, and representative genera with emphasis on Oregon native plants Priscilla Spears December 2013 The following listing gives an introduction to the phylogenetic classification of the flowering plants that has emerged in recent decades, and which is based on nucleic acid sequences as well as morphological and developmental data. This listing emphasizes temperate families of the Northern Hemisphere and is meant as an overview with examples of Oregon native plants. It includes many exotic genera that are grown in Oregon as ornamentals plus other plants of interest worldwide. The genera that are Oregon natives are printed in a blue font. Genera that are exotics are shown in black, however genera in blue may also contain non-native species. Names separated by a slash are alternatives or else the nomenclature is in flux. When several genera have the same common name, the names are separated by commas. The order of the family names is from the linear listing of families in the APG III report. College, Barasat, Kolkata- 700124, West Bengal, India *Author for Correspondence: [email protected] ABSTRACT Epicalyx, staminal tube, stigma and trichome morphological characters have been used to characterize some common members of Malvaceae s.s. These characters have been analyzed following a recent molecular phylogenetic classification of Malvaceae s.s. Stigmatic character is effective for segregation of the tribe Gossypieae from other tribes. But precise distinction of other two studied tribes, viz. Hibisceae and Malveae on the basis of this character proved to be insufficient. Absence of epicalyx in Malachra has indicated an independent evolutionary event within Hibisceae. Distinct H-shaped trichome of Malvastrum has pointed out its isolated position within Malveae. Staminal tube morphological similarities of Abutilon and Sida have suggested their closeness. A key to the genera has been provided for identification purpose. The late Harold Esslemont was one of the most experienced growers and exhibitors in the SRGC over a great many years and the following article was adapted from The Rock Garden journal of 1969 to showcase some plants that are as popular today as they were over forty years ago. The last cover of 2011 was of a wintry scene in the Scottish Garden of two of the IRG team so we thought we’d share this January sunset for the start of 2012. In his weekly Bulb Log Diary, now in its tenth year, Ian shares his method of taking such photos. Cover picture: January Sunset, Aberdeen. J. Ian Young ---Mountains in the Garden--- My Twelve Favourite Alpines by the late Harold Esslemont M.B.E. (adapted by M.Y.) It was the final meeting of the season of the local group. A postcard announced that two* members had been invited to show and discuss slides of their twelve favourite alpines. It appeared that I was to be one of the speakers. I forget who told me that his list of twelve favourite alpines ran to at least twenty, but I was soon to learn how right he was. My brief was twelve plants, no more, and a decision, however difficult, had to be made. The compiling of such a list is influenced by so many factors that the result may be expected to vary widely among individuals. -
