Summer Intensive 2019 Brochure Faculty Continued National Ballet Theatre in Yugoslavia, the City Ballet in San Diego, and he was a soloist with the Colorado Ballet. He has won prizes for best partner at the 7th International Competition in Moscow, and is Laureate from the International Nureyev’s Festival and the International Festival of Dance in Spoleto, Italy. Summer Intensive Gregory Gonzales was a principal dancer for Colorado Ballet from 1996- 2019 2004. He also danced with Ballet About Us Pacifica, Ballet Arizona, Nevada Dance Theatre, and David Taylor Dance Theater. Major roles include the Preacher in ‘Appalachian Spring,’ Dark Angel in ‘Serenade,’ Pat Garrett in ‘Billy Founded in 1998 by Director the Kid,’ Head Wrangler in ‘Rodeo,’ Ilena Norton, Ballet Ariel Tybalt in ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ and Franz in ‘Coppelia.’ Greg graduated with a delights audiences with the Bachelor of Arts in Dance/Kinesiology diversity of their programs from the University of Northern and dancers.     Press Information → 2020/21 Season THE VIENNA ① STATE BALLET 2020/21 »Along with my team and my dancers, I intend to work towards developing the Vienna State Ballet into a major hotspot of the art of dance in Austria and Europe forming an ensemble that reflects and inspires the traditions, changes and innovations of the lively metropolis, city of art and music, Vienna.« Martin Schläpfer Martin Schläpfer takes over the direction of the Vienna State Ballet with the 2020 / 21 season. The renowned Swiss choreographer and ballet director has recently led the multi-award-winning Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg to international acclaim. His works fascinate with their intensity, their virtuosity, their deeply moving images and a concise language of movement, which is understood as making music with the body, but always reflects the atmosphere and questions of today’s world. Several performances offer the opportunity to encounter Martin Schläpfer’s art – including two world premieres: Two new pieces for Vienna are being created to Gustav Mahler’s 4th Symphony and Dmitri Shostakovich’s 15th Symphony, which also mark the beginning of the intensive creative dialogue that Martin Schläpfer will be establishing with the artists of his ensemble in the coming years. As director, Martin Schläpfer is a bridge-builder who will naturally continue to cultivate the great ballet traditions, but will also enrich the programme with important contemporary artists and a great variety of choreographic signatures.     FACULTY Patricia Renzetti was the prima ballerina for the Colorado Ballet for twelve years, and also was a principal dancer with the London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet), Scapino Ballet of Holland, Iranian National Ballet, and the Tampa Ballet. She appeared as a guest ballerina with the Estonia National Ballet, Teatro Communale in Florence, Italy, and the Israel Ballet. She has danced leading roles in the classical repertoire including ‘Cinderella’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Coppelia’, ‘Swan Lake’, and ‘Sleeping Beauty’. She has staged many classical ballets for Ballet Ariel including the pas de six from ‘Napoli’, ‘Les Sylphides’, ‘La Vivandiere’, and ‘Pas de Quatre’. Patricia earned a Master’s Degree in Choreography at the University of Iowa, and continues to teach, choreograph, and occasionally perform. She has an MA in counseling. Ilena Norton—Artistic and Executive Director, has directed the Ballet Ariel Company since 1998 and founded the Ballet Ariel School in 2001. She has been teaching in the Ballet Ariel School since 2001, and her students have successfully auditioned for multiple ballet company summer programs and are performing with professional ballet companies. The Ballet Ariel Director has a Bachelors Degree from Stanford University and postgraduate education from Yale University and the Summer Intensive University of Colorado in psychology and health.

Each year, Amy identi"es a theme and invites stunning choreographers that she thinks have a pertinent message to create dances for Bay Area audiences — dances and choreographers that we wouldn’t, otherwise, be exposed to. Last year, she brought in female choreographers to present their individual message, commenting on the lack of female choreographers in the ballet "eld. This year, she has chosen to focus on process, shifting the focus from who makes the ballets, to how ballets are being made, as a theme. To accomplish this she invited a marvelous local choreographer familiar to Bay Area audiences through San Francisco Ballet, Val Caniparoli, as well as a renowned Australian choreographer, Marc Brew. And, we can thrill to a new o#ering by Amy herself.
