Journal metrics:

Impact factor (IF) is a scientometric index which reflects the yearly average number of citations to recent articles published in that journal.

Five-year is calculated by dividing the number of citations to the journal in a given year by the number of articles published in that journal in the previous five years.

Selecting the right journal for your paper Determine the quality level of your paper by: • Novelty • Originality • Importance

Use SCI, SCOPUS, SCImago, or other journal indexes to select appropriate journals

Example: - go to https://www.scimagojr.com/journalrank.php

- Search for a journal with your keywords, for example (waste)

- Check journal metrics, indexing, publisher, etc. Journal scope and instructions for authors

Go to the journal website; In our example Waste management, Elsevier Journal

Check the journal scope

Read instructions for authors

After selecting the right journal for your paper, you should format your paper based on the Instructions for authors. Submitting papers

Many journals use electronic online submission systems.

Some journals still use submission by e-mail

Online submision needs usually registration of a coresponding author

Next steps: Select article type original research review short communication .. Research field Title Abstract Authors Uploading files - cover letter -manuscript - highlights - graphical abstracts - supplementary materials. You recommend a number of reviewers, usually 5, the journal editor can use your recommendation or not. The editor will check your paper with the journal scope and for its originality and novelty

Editor will make a decision on taking your paper under review or rejecting it When your paper goes under review, the editor will send it to a number of reviewers Reviewres are selected from the journal database, usually they are competent authors from the same field.
