The nine day event will be celebrated at Goddess Kanaka Durga Prayer Hall. Navarathri represents celebration of Goddess Durga, the manifestation of Deity in the form of Shakti [Energy or Power]. The Navarathri festival or ‘Nine Nights festival’ culminates with Vijaya Dasami. During Navarathri event, abhishekam will be performed for Goddess Kanaka Durga every day, adorned with special alamkaram every day and worshiped with fervor and devotion. On Friday, October 23rd Kumkum Archana is planned for greater devotee participation.     Venkateswaran 1 Devi: An Exploration of Hindu Goddess Iconography Evyn Venkateswaran ‘Devi’ is a collection of illustrations that emphasize the unifying feminine power in Hinduism, commonly known as shakti. Portrayed within are several deities that have unique ​ ​ stories and corporeal forms, re-contextualized through a modern lens. The ways in which I have achieved this is through my depiction of each of the goddesses, featuring a separate culture or ethnicity found within the Indian Subcontinent. This challenges the current market of Hindu illustrations where all goddesses share the same facial-features, skin-tone, and clothing. In addition, each of the artworks contain compositions that are unique and break away from the typical forward-facing, subject gazing directly at the audience compositions found in the aforementioned illustrations. Lastly, when creating my illustrations, I strove to capture a story or a meaning that would distinguish the identity of that specific deity. Initially, the technique in which I completed this project was through using either oil pastels or nupastels, later adding a layer of digital paint with Photoshop. However, due to different situational changes, I have finished my last images utilizing Procreate on my iPad Pro. With both situations, I focused on impressionistic mark-making, using several colors to create an iridescent quality in each of the pieces. Within my color palettes, I used golden-yellow in each of the pieces to draw significance between the goddesses, for example using the most amount of gold in Durga to emphasize how she’s the ultimate ​ ​ form of shakti. ​ My intent of displaying these images is through posters that can either be used as iconography within worship or hung up as decoration.

    OM NAMO BHAGAVATE PANDURANGAYA BALAJI VANI Volume 11, Issue 10 October, 2017 HARI OM In Month of September Navaraatri Durga Puja was carried out with great devotion in the Balaji Matha Temple at San Jose, headed by Peethadhipati Swami Narayananda. All of these nine days Sri Sri Chandi Parayan and Chandi Hom (fire ritual) was conducted in the temple premises by Swami Narayananda. Devotees were graced with Darshan of Maa Durga, Maha-Lakshmi and Devi Kanyaka Parameshwari in different attires. Sometimes she was Shakambhari Devi, appeasing the hunger of this Universe. Regally outfitted as Sri Sri Parambhattarika Lalita-Tripura-Sundari, Mother blessed Her devotees with Bhukti (satisfaction) and Mukti (salvation). Maa Siddhidaatri was venerated with Phoolangi seva (decoration of flowers) gracing the devotees with blissful happiness. Every evening prayers were conducted by Swamiji, with devotees chanting Mother's glory. This was accompanied by Kumari Ka - Puja (prayers to the living Goddess in the female child). Then the devotees enjoyed the performances of various local talents, of all age groups, and ended each festival day with preetibhoj. Swami Nityananda assisted in all the Poojas & Alankar. On September 30th, Vijaya Dashami, the concluding day of the puja, Swami Sri Durga Devi Pullangi Seva at Balaji Temple. Narayananda led the devotees into praying to the Mother Goddess as Maha- Kaali (Power of Universal Knowledge Tatvagnan-Shakti), Maha-Lakshmi (Power of Soul : Sadatmak-Shakti) and Maha-Saraswati (Power of Mind : SARVADĀ STHĀPANAṂ BUDDHEḤ ŚUDDHE BRAHMAṆI SARVADĀ | Chit-Shakti), seeking Her everlasting love and blessings.
