THE MYTHOLOGY, TRADITIONS and HISTORY OF MacDHUBHSITH ― MacDUFFIE CLAN (McAfie, McDuffie, MacFie, MacPhee, Duffy, etc.) VOLUME 2 THE LANDS OF OUR FATHERS PART 2 Earle Douglas MacPhee (1894 - 1982) M.M., M.A., M.Educ., LL.D., D.U.C., D.C.L. Emeritus Dean University of British Columbia This 2009 electronic edition Volume 2 is a scan of the 1975 Volume VII. Dr. MacPhee created Volume VII when he added supplemental data and errata to the original 1792 Volume II. This electronic edition has been amended for the errata noted by Dr. MacPhee. - i - THE LIVES OF OUR FATHERS PREFACE TO VOLUME II In Volume I the author has established the surnames of most of our Clan and has proposed the sources of the peculiar name by which our Gaelic compatriots defined us. In this examination we have examined alternate progenitors of the family. Any reader of Scottish history realizes that Highlanders like to move and like to set up small groups of people in which they can become heads of families or chieftains. This was true in Colonsay and there were almost a dozen areas in Scotland where the clansman and his children regard one of these as 'home'. The writer has tried to define the nature of these homes, and to study their growth. It will take some years to organize comparative material and we have indicated in Chapter III the areas which should require research. In Chapter IV the writer has prepared a list of possible chiefs of the clan over a thousand years. The books on our Clan give very little information on these chiefs but the writer has recorded some probable comments on his chiefship.

S.C.OUTLANDER – SCOTLAND TOUR July 2019 July 8 2019: Welcome to Scotland Arrive at the Glasgow airport and meet your informed guide that will provide your Outlander Tour of Scotland. We board our coach and head to Pollok Park to stretch our legs after the long flight. Pollok Country Park is the area that stood in for the field where Claire gathers her healing herbs. We then continue into Glasgow and enjoy a panoramic tour of the city and a stop in George Square before proceeding to our hotel. Tonight we enjoy a Welcome dinner together. Overnight: Apex City Hotel, Glasgow July 9 2019: Today you will travel south of Glasgow to Ayrshire were we stopa at Dean Castle (outside only), one of the ancient seats of Clan Boyd, and home to one of the Jacobite commanders (Lord Kilmarnock) became Beaufort Castle, during the filming of Outlander. The Wall-walk, courtyard and exterior all made it onscreen, as Jamie and Claire visited the Old Fox to discuss the issue of men for the Bonnie Prince. Continue on to Dunure, a gem of a coastal village on the Ayrshire coast. Little wonder, then, that it was chosen for three major filming sequences. The ruined Kennedy stronghold of Dunure Castle was Selkie's Isle, where Jamie searched for Claire and found the jewels. It was, of course, later the location where the slavers captured young Ian. And the harbour at Dunure is where Jamie, Claire, Fergus (and a smuggled Marsali) all boarded ship for the Caribbean. Our final stop today will be Drumlanrig Castle which was used for the filming of the exterior, living rooms and bedrooms of Bellhurst Manor.

Their Nation Dishonored, the Queen Shamed, and Country Undone: Feuding, Factionalism, and Religion in the Chaseabout Raid Abstract The mid-sixteenth century witnessed religious and political upheaval across much of Western Europe, particularly in the British Isles. In 1565, a good portion of the Scottish nobility rebelled against their sovereign, Mary, Queen of Scots. The roles played and decisions made by the nobles during this revolt, known as the Chaseabout Raid, provide important insights concerning the converging issues of feuding, factionalism, and religion in Scotland. My reconstructed narrative of the Chaseabout Raid indicates that there were, in fact, no firm factions determined yb ideology, but rather shifting allegiances in the midst of conflict, determined yb complex and interrelated factors, personalities, and motivations. The primary motivation for the coalitions formed during the Chaseabout Raid was selfish personal ambition—base desire for individual gain still superseded any proto-nationalistic ideas or purely ideological commitments.

********************************************************************************* GENEALOGISTS FOR THE SCOTTISH CLANS by Robert D. McLaren 7810 Kincardine Court Alexandria, VA 22315-4025 (703) 971-6924 [email protected] 8 April 2000 Version 2000-3 © Copyright 2000 Robert D. McLaren The following list is a compilation of Clan Genealogists or Clan points of contact for genealogy (for the Scottish Clans and Family Associations). The amount of information available from these genealogists varies greatly, with some having extensive records. For example, the clan genealogist for Clan Scott maintains a database of all SCOTTs and is a coordinator of the SCOTT One Name Society. He has about 53,000 records on file dealing with more than 2,000 family lines. The clan genealogist/historian for Clan Barclay also is a coordinator for the BARCLAY One Name Society. She has about 19,000 BARCLAY/BARKLEY and collateral names on file dealing with 125 family lines. The Clan Morrison historian has a 6,000-name database of MORRISON families in the U.S. and Canada. Some clans have genealogy committees. When I learn about them I will include committee members in this listing. Some of these members only cover one or a few states. In these cases, I note the states that particular member covers. Also, some clan genealogists specialize in one surname of a clan. Clan MacKay, for example, has many surname genealogists. I am listing these surnames under the parent clan with a note (i.e., See also Mackie). The actual genealogist and his/her address will be listed under the surname (i.e., Mackie). For some clans, more than one society exists.
