Nintendo Co., Ltd. Who Have Access to Nintendo IP Corporate Management Policy Briefing / Nine Months Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2017 Thank you for making time to attend Nintendo’s financial briefing. I am Tatsumi Kimishima, Nintendo Co., Ltd. President of Nintendo. Corporate Management Mr. Furukawa, General Manager of the Corporate Policy Briefing Planning Department, has just presented our President and Representative Director Tatsumi Kimishima financial results for this period. Our basic strategy remains unchanged. We seek to Basic Strategy expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP. Expand the Number of People Who Have Access to Nintendo IP Today I will be discussing three areas in which Presentation Outline Nintendo is working to pursue that strategy. The 1 Nintendo 3DS Sales three areas I will discuss are Nintendo 3DS sales 2 Smart-Device Business and future business projections, smart-device business, and Nintendo Switch. 3 Nintendo Switch Business First, I will discuss the status of Nintendo 3DS. I will cover the sales for the third quarter, including the holiday season, as well as future business projections. Sales and Future Business Projections 1 Corporate Management Policy Briefing / Nine Months Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2017 We released two completely new entries in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, worldwide in November last year, and achieved explosive sales. According to our recent analysis, the global sell-through (volume sold from retailers Global Sell-Through 13 Million Units to consumers) has exceeded 13 million units and Includes bundles and digital sales / Source: Nintendo, Media Create, NPD continues to grow. Note: The periods represented vary slightly, as Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire released in November 2014 and Pokémon X and Pokémon Y released in October 2013. For the first two quarters, both hardware and software maintained lower trends than the previous year, but for the third quarter, which also includes the holiday period, the release of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon drove software sales higher than the previous year, and hardware sales did not lose momentum. 3 Corporate Management Policy Briefing / Nine Months Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2017 Note: Nintendo 3DS hardware includes the New Nintendo 3DS, the New Nintendo 3DS XL, the Nintendo 3DS, the Nintendo 3DS XL and the Nintendo 2DS systems. Sales growth has maintained momentum even through the holiday period in Europe. High demand from children hoping to receive this title as a present has produced measurable results. The animated television show is also expanding to more regions, so we can expect further growth from this franchise in the future.

The respective owners reserve all rights ABSTRACT The article focuses on how dynamic game characters create friction in a ludo mix strategy consisting of primarily ludic media, disturbing the narrative coherency that trans- or cross-media strategies strive for. In particular, dynamic game characters, with a development structure that the player influences, cause narrative inconsistencies with the character’s transmedia appearances. Yet, in Japanese media and ludo mixes, character proliferation is the norm so that different versions of the same character can exist without any issues of narrative coherency. Through a case study of the Fire Emblem: Three Houses ludo mix, this article argues that the Japanese concept of the kyara, a proto-character, demonstrates to be an excellent means to avoid a clash between 101 102 Joleen Blom the dynamic game character in one work and its appearance in another work. It concludes that through the use of the kyara, the IP owner avoids any clash between the dynamic game character’s appearance in its source work and its appearance in other ludic works, thereby giving the impression that the player’s agency over the dynamic game character stays intact.

    Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ended March 2018 Thank you for making time to attend Nintendo’s financial briefing. I am Tatsumi Kimishima, President of Nintendo. Nintendo Co., Ltd. Mr. Furukawa, General Manager of the Corporate Financial Results Briefing Planning Department, has just presented our financial President and Representative Director results for this period. Tatsumi Kimishima I will now discuss our planned initiatives for the fiscal year ending March 2019. Firstly, Nintendo Labo has had the high expectation as a “very Nintendo” product since the original announcement in January this year, and as soon as it was launched, consumers have been posting photos and video of parents and children as they work together to assemble Global Release, April 2018 the cardboard pieces and then play with their completed Toy-Con, which were unimaginable in video games before. It has been on sale for only a week in Japan and the US, while sales in Europe will begin today, but the main purchasers of Nintendo Labo at launch are not the same as with typical video games, and they are mainly elementary school children and their fathers, as well as game players who like creative activities. We developed and will nurture Nintendo Labo as a product that is not constrained by the boundaries of conventional video games and can endear itself to a broader range of consumers. From the initial response, we have this solid feeling that we are off to a great start in that regard. Some Nintendo Titles Released Since the Start of the Year We began releasing Nintendo titles non-stop with the launch of Nintendo Switch, and kept the new-release buzz alive through the end of the year.
