Four Nations WORLD AMATEUR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (ESPIRITO SANTO TROPHY) AUSTRALIAN REPRESENTATIVES AND RECORDS The World Amateur Team Championship is conducted by the International Golf Federation which comprises the national governing bodies of golf in more than 110 countries. It is a biennial competition rotated among three geographic zones of the world: Asia-Pacific, American and European-African. Each team, which has two or three players, plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship. The winning team receives custody of the Espirito Santo Trophy for the ensuing two years.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Women’s Western Championship Finals Set Romeoville, Ill., June 29, 2018 … After playing four consecutive days, or two-day stroke play qualifying rounds and two rounds of match play, eight players advanced to the Quarterfinal this morning at the Women’s Western Golf Association’s 118th National Amateur Championship being held at Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, Ill. In the first match, tournament Medalist Emilee Hoffman, Folsom, Calif. defeated Brigitte Thibault, Quebec, Canada 6 & 5. Hoffman was 4 up at the turn, or 1-under 35. Her only birdie on the front side was the par 5, 514 yard 3rd hole; she won the match on 13. Thibault’s only birdie of the day was on the 12th, 369 yard par 4. “Brigitte is a great player. The course is in excellent shape and the greens are rolling well, so I made a lot of putts today,” Hoffman said. Katharine Patrick, West University Place, Tex. defeated Magdalena Simmermacher, Buenos Aires, Argentina 1 up. Patrick started the match with a double bogey on the 1st and bogey on the 2nd; she made her only birdie on the front with a 3 on the 401 yard hole 4th hole, after nine she was 1-down. Simmermacher’s lone birdie on the front came on the 316 yard 2nd hole. On the back, both players birdied the 403 yard 11th; Patrick made birdies on the 175 yard 14th and 512 yard 15th; Simmermacher had pars on 15, 16, and 17 but it was too late, Patrick won the match on 18.

The tight contest went extra holes in three of the five matches before the Blue Devils won their seventh national championship and their first in match play. With the score tied at two through 19 holes, Miranda Wang sealed the victory for Duke, facing off against Letizia Bagnoli on their 20th hole, a par five No. 2 on the course, and two-putting for the title. Ana Belac’s 5&3 win over Vanessa Knecht was the first score in for Duke, with the four remaining matches being tied up soon after. Emilia Migliaccio put the first point on the board for Wake Forest, defeating Gina Kim, 1-up through 18. Duke regained the lead, up 2-1, as Jaravee Boonchant edged last year’s medalist Jennifer Kupcho, making par on their 19th hole. Wake Forest’s Siyun Liu evened up the score up for the Demon Deacons as she birdied their 20th hole, defeating Virginia Elena Carta, who has now won an individual (2016) and team championship. “You know, I couldn't feel more proud than I do right now,” said Duke head coach Dan Brooks.
