School House Green Moor Road | Sheffield | S35 7DQ School House.indd 1 13/02/2017 13:35 Seller Insight Green Moor is a small and peaceful South Yorkshire hamlet that is situated in a glorious location, surrounded by lush green fields, wooded slopes and rolling farmland. The area has a well known industrial heritage. At its centre lies School House, an imposing stone built property dating back to 1879, which, until the late 1950s, was home to the school Head teacher. “I’d say it was a combination of the character of the property and its location which initially drew me and my husband to School House,” explained Chris. “We walked up the path, turned around and were taken aback by the amazing far reaching views. On a clear day, you can see the sun glinting on the Yorkshire Wolds, a way off in the distance. The house itself is fabulous but this combined with the view sold it to us.” “Since purchasing the house in 2006 we’ve carried out some cosmetic work to it, but in essence the layout is virtually as it was when the property was built, so very traditional. We have a lovely light and airy living room at the front of the property which takes in the wonderful views The large open plan dining room and kitchen(also with a view) is ideal for entertaining friends and family. It’s a spacious and comfortable family home made all the more attractive by its surroundings.” “Another lovely feature of the house is the garden “continues Chris.

  • Hunshelf Chat Issue 65 - April 2011
Hunshelf Chat Issue 65 - April 2011 Well Hill Walls, especially our dry stone walls are an essential heritage feature of our parish. Kathryn Austin raised concern at a parish council meeting that the sycamore saplings on Well Hill were in danger of destroying our walls. Not immediately of course, but over time. So, on a grey day, six good men and true, well four men and two valiant ladies, attacked the worst bits of Well Hill and removed and hopefully killed off a batch of saplings. When we got to the bottom of the mass of sycamore, bramble, and rubbish, we realised just why this bit of verge was never flailed by the council. It was mainly old tree stumps that had re- generated into a coppiced hedge. This must have been done some years ago. There is still more to be done, but it will have to wait now for next year. Many thanks to the six tree fellers, Barnsley MBC for their support and Alan Crookes and Philip Watts and family for the use of their fields. Would you buy a heap like this? • Newsletter 81 Early Spring 2011
NEWSLETTER 81 EARLY SPRING 2011 EDITORIAL Another year and another Newsletter; I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and managed to cope with the snow and bitter cold. It was unfortunate that we had to cancel the December lecture due to the bad weather and Claremont being closed but the good news is that the speaker Christine Ball has agreed to give her talk on Water Power on Sheffield’s Rivers in the 2011/12 programme. Jane Ellis is already working on the next programme but it is not too late to send her any suggestions for speakers and topics covering aspects of the industrial history of Yorkshire. If you have been attending the recent talks you will be aware that we have decided to change the date of the walk around Keighley originally planned for Sunday 15 May. When Robert Vickers and Alan Longbottom started their detailed planning for the walk, their view was that although Sunday would obviously be less busy for a walk, there were far fewer amenities available for refreshment breaks. Consequently the date for the walk will now be Saturday 30 April starting at 10.30am and the good news is that we will be able to see inside Knowle Mill as guests of the Keighley Model Railway Club – I hope that many of you can make it. Robert and I were concerned that the walks that have been organised so far have not been very well attended and at the November lecture we asked the members for their views on whether it was worthwhile and of interest to continue to arrange walks.
