Manager Mitch Canham begins his third season in the Mariners organization, his second as manager for Modesto. He was named California League Manager of the Year and led the Modesto Nuts to a 2017 California League Championship, including going 6-0 in the postseason. After wrapping up his professional playing career in 2014, Canham began his managerial debut with the Clinton LumberKings. He graduated from Lake Stevens (WA) High School in 2002 and Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business with an emphasis in business management. Canham is the founder and CEO of BASE By Pros LLC, an Canham organization that provides personalized baseball instruction and mentorship to kids across the country. He resides in Marysville, WA with his wife Marlis and two children. Pitching Pete Woodworth enters his third season with the Mariners organization, his second as pitching coach for Modesto. Woodworth came to the Mariners organization from his alma mater Florida Gulf Coast University, where he served as the team's pitching coach for the past two seasons. He played for the Eagles from 2007-10, where he compiled a 25-9 career record, making him the school's all-time wins leader. In his senior season, he went 9-2 as part of a pitching staff that included 2010 first round pick and four-time MLB All-Star for the Chicago White Sox, Chris Sale. From there he served as an area scout for the Rays before Woodworth joining the coaching staff at Nova Southeastern University. Hitting Joe Thurston begins his second season in the Mariners organization as hitting coach for Modesto. Prior to joining the Seattle organization, Thurston began his career as a professional coach with Rookie Billings in the Cincinnati Reds organization. His 16-year (1999-2015) playing career spanned parts of 7 seasons in the big leagues with the Dodgers, Phillies, Red Sox, Cardinals and Marlins. Thurston graduated from Vallejo High School in Vallejo, California. He was originally selected in 1997 by the Boston Red Sox in the 45th round (1,332nd overall) of the MLB draft, but did not sign with them and instead went to Thurston Sacramento City College. He was drafted again in 1999, this time by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 4th round (134th) of the 1999 Major League Baseball draft. Thurston resides in Stockton, CA.
