The Leading Sire in 2003 A.P. INDY
Bill Oppenheim, June 18, 2003–All Those Mr. Prospectors first crop, won the Japan Cup and ran a brilliant second FROM THE DESK OF... in the 1999 Arc. Lemon Drop Kid, from his second crop, won Grade 1 races at two, three and four, was a Bill Oppenheim Classic winner of the Belmont S., and was named champion older horse in North America at four--all on ALL THOSE MR. PROSPECTORS the dirt. King’s Best, from Kingmambo’s third crop, Of the 11 runners in yesterday’s G1 St James’s won the English 2000 Guineas in Y2K. His fourth crop Palace S., what I call the European 2000 Guineas, five included two Group 1-winning colts, the ultimately were from the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer, three disappointing 2000 Grand Criterium winner (and were from the Storm Bird branch, and one (Tout Seul) champion two-year-old colt in France) Okawango; and represented Nijinsky II. That left an Indian Ridge (Irish Malhub, who appeared from nowhere to win the Golden 2000 winner Indian Haven) and the winner, the Zafonic Jubilee S. (formerly the Cork and Orrery, in its first year colt Zafeen. as a Group 1) at Royal Ascot last year. Now Dubai Danzig did run 2-3, with Kalaman, from Desert Destination adds his name to that pretty impressive list. Prince’s first crop of Northern Hemisphere three-year- Kingmambo doesn’t have a Group 1-winning colt in his olds, a fast-closing second, and the German 2000 sixth crop yet, but he does have his third European Guineas winner Martillo (by Anabaa) third. -
