Preamble This document provides a set of guidelines for all 4 divisions in Ontario to follow for the 2017- 2018 season. Clubs are to follow these guidelines when: • Designing and implementing programming • Operating events, camps and races • And for parents and athletes to familiarize themselves with the event standards they should expect at each venue Following these guidelines will ensure consistency across the province. Please note most of these guidelines and rules are based around our focus on athlete development, security and experience.

Guidelines & Rules Alpine Ski Racing is governed by the international governing body, the International Ski Federation (FIS) and international rulebook for alpine ski racing is the FIS International Competition Rules (ICR). Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) has National Rules & Polices and National Competition Rules applicable to nationally sanctioned races within Canada. Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) has Programming Guidelines applicable to provincially sanctioned races within Ontario. Pages 5-19 outline guidelines for OCUP and provincial sanctioned events and pages/appendices A-D outline guidelines for division sanctioned events and division rules.

U8/U10 Entry Level Program Program Design

The U8/10 Entry Level program is aimed at providing athletes aged 5 to 9 years old (an individual club has the right to limit enrollment to a more defined age group), the ‘FUNdamentals’ of skiing as defined in the ACA LTSD Phases of Skier Essentials. In coordination with the ACA Snow Stars Program focusing on skill levels 2, 3, and 4, the AOA program is intended to foster the development of the athlete. U8/10 competition events are to be focused on the development of ski racing skills while continuing to promote the development of overall skiing skills. Normal competition days will pair a traditional “RACE” event, (i.e. SL/GS/Kombi) with a skills festival. These additions should foster the development of overall skills while maintaining participant enjoyment, focusing on the FUN of competition. U8 age athletes as young as 5-6 can participate in ACA sanctioned programs in the U8 age programming.

Eligibility

Athletes ages 5-7 as of December 31st of the current season are eligible to register in the U8 AOA program if their member club offers such a program. Athletes age 8-9, as of December 31st of the current season are eligible to register in the U10 AOA program. U8/U10 athletes will not be nationally carded in Ontario.

Registration All U8/10 athletes must be registered through the AOA online registration system which includes a waiver, to compete in any events or camps.

Race parameters • Races will be regionalized to reduce travel time for athletes • Starts should be limited to no more than 5 domestic starts including festivals and invitational’s • 60 inch, kinder/children’s gates will be used • Additional AOA sanctioned invitational events may be added - host club to administer in accordance with AOA Invitational Policy and Application • AOA U10-U12 Championship event held at Muskoka Ski Club March 16-18, 2018

Course Setting Current course setting guidelines for U8/U10 can be found in Appendix F

Start lists • Events will run gender ( i.e. boys/girls) separated on the same course • First run start order will be determined by a separate, random draw of girl and boys • Second run start list will be a reversal of the 1st run start order (i.e. 100-1) • All athletes will have 2 runs • e.g. Run 1 Girls (random), Boys (random) • e.g. Run 2 Girls (reverse incl. DSQ DNF DNS), Run 2 Boys (reverse incl. DSQ DNF DNS)

Results & Awards • Results will be based on official race format FIS ICR 617.3.2 • 1st – 10th male and female athletes will receive ribbons (bronze color medals)– no podium

Equipment • All athletes must comply with the ACA domestic policy – see Appendix E • Helmets must comply with event specific rules – see Appendix E • No Go Pro mounts and other modifications permitted • Athletes are not permitted to wear speed suits – not necessary at this developmental age • Only one pair of skis required

U12 Entry Level Program Program Design

The U12 Entry Level program is aimed at providing athletes aged 10 and 11 the ‘FUNdamentals’ of skiing as defined in the ACA LTSD Stages of Development. All AOA U12 athletes will NOT be nationally carded.

Race Parameters • AOA strongly recommends that all athletes train and race at a development ratio of 8:1 • Starts should be limited to no more than 6 domestic starts including festivals and invitational’s • Races will be regionalized to reduce travel time for athletes • 60 inch, kinder/children’s gates or stubbies will be used • Additional AOA sanctioned invitational events may be added - host club to administer in accordance with AOA Invitational Application and Policy • All race events will be set in accordance to ACA/AOA sanctioned course setting rules – see Appendix F

Jury • The Jury will consist of a Technical Delegate, Chief of Race and a Referee (coach selected at Team Captains Meeting), to ensure FIS ICR and ACA National Competition Rules compliance • All Jury members are required to be minimum ACA Level 2 Official (coaches may qualify through CSCF horizontal certification pathway)

Start lists • Events will run gender separated (i.e. boys/girls) ideally with first and second run being held on a different set with, at minimum, a redress required between runs. • First run start order will be determined by a separate, random draw of girls and boys • Second run start list will be a reversal of the 1st run start order (i.e. 100-1) • All athletes will have two (2) runs • e.g. Run 1 Girls (random), Boys (random) • e.g. Run 2 Girls (reverse incl. DSQ DNF DNS), Run 2 Boys (reverse incl. DSQ DNF DNS)

Results & Awards • Results will be based on official race format FIS ICR 617.3.2 • 1st – 3rd male and female athletes will receive medals on the podium • 4th – 10th male and female athletes will receive ribbons (bronze colored medals) on the podium • All athletes and coaches are expected to attend award ceremonies. Top 5 are required to attend in accordance with FIS ICR reference 205.4; clubs will be sanctioned $25 per infraction for any Top 5 athletes not in attendance.

Equipment • All athletes must comply with the ACA domestic policy – see Appendix E • Helmets must comply with event specific rules • No Go Pro mounts and other modifications permitted • Athletes are permitted to wear speed suits • Only one pair of skis required

U14 OCUP Program Program Design

The U14 age program delivers Learn to Train and Learn to Race programming for athletes aged 12 and 13, as defined in the ACA LTSD Stages of Development. The ACA SnowStars program continues to provide athletic guidance at levels 6 and 7. U14 competition events are to be focused on the development of ski racing skills while beginning to promote performance on demand.

For Division specific programming please see Appendix A-D.

Athletes will ski SL, GS, Speed, and Dual either in competition or at Skills Camps.

Eligibility Athletes must be 12-13 years of age as of December 31st of the current season to be eligible for the U14 racing program.

To participate in the 2018 U14 OCUP Finals/Ontario Championships, each athlete must submit a dated (between Sept 1-Dec 31) fitness testing record to AOA by Dec 31, 2018. Please consult with your club for planned fitness testing sessions. AOA will be hosting mass fitness testing on Nov 4, 2017 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Please register on www.alpineontario.ca.

Start Lists U14 OCUP Mid-Winter and Finals • Events will run gender separated (i.e. boys/girls) ideally with first and second run being held on a different set with, at minimum, a redress required between runs. • First run start order will be determined by a separate draw of girls and boys based on divisional seeding - NOD 2, LSDA 2, NCD 3, and SOD 8 per 15 racer seed • Second run start order is determined by the result list of the first run except for the first 30 places, which shall start in reverse order • All athletes will have two (2) runs • e.g. Run 1 Girls (divisional seeding), Boys (divisional seeding) • e.g. Run 2 Girls (results from run 1 but flip top 30 followed by DSQ DNF DNS), Run 2 Boys (results from run 1 but flip top 30 followed by DSQ DNF DNS)

Scoring OCUP Points will be awarded to the Top 60 Racers in each race as per the O-Cup Grid (WC 500 point system). ACA points will also be collected and assigned to the racers profiles. The OCUP winners (overall, slalom, , speed, dual) will be crowned at the completion of OCUP Finals.

U19+/FIS Program

Program Design

The U19+ age program is aimed at providing athletes, aged 16 years or older with programming based on the ACA LTSD Learn to Race phase and progressing to the Train to Race and Train to Win phases of the ACA LTSD. The U19+ age group provides the most diversity for an athlete to compete. U19+ is the age where not only can an athlete ski race domestically within Canada but can also compete as an international athlete with the International Ski Federation (FIS).

New for the 2017-18 season, are the following registration options: Provincial U19/U21 Registration- (for racing in Ontario only) Provincial Registration is the only registration needed to participate in any Alpine Ski Racing** event FIS or otherwise within any division in the province of Ontario. This represents a change from years past when an ACA Points registration was available. (This registration restricted athletes to limited opportunities***) ** Not restricted by a posted points quota i.e. U19 NC, NorAm *** Access to only “ACA- National point formerly J,” events.

National U19/U21 Registration - for racing in Ontario and other provinces includes Class 3 SAIP Insurance

International U19/U21 Registration - for racing or training in Canada and internationally, includes Class 2 SAIP Insurance)

The National (#2) and International (#3) registrations are only required if you are interested in participating in FIS events in other Provinces or outside of Canada.

At this level, athlete performance becomes a strong focus of the competitions; while the development of strong skiing skills remains a crucial element of the program.

Athletes may ski SL, GS, Speed (DH and Super G), Ski Cross and Dual either in competition or at skills camps dependent on registration.

Eligibility Any athlete that is 16+ years of age as of December 31st of the current season are eligible for the U19+ racing program.

Registration All U19/21 athletes must be registered through the AOA online registration system, be an AOA club member in good standing and have a signed waiver to compete in any events or camps. A ACA Medical evaluation is required to be signed by a doctor and a FIS Athlete declaration. These documents once complete can be scanned and sent to AOA offices to be kept on file.

Jury • The Jury will consist of a Technical Delegate, Chief of Race and a Referee (coach selected at Team Captains Meeting), to ensure FIS ICR and ACA National Competition Rules compliance • AOA will attempt to pre-assign referees and course setters for AOA events • All Jury members are required to be minimum ACA Level 2 Official (coaches may qualify through CSCF horizontal certification pathway)

Start Lists • Events will run gender separated (i.e. boys/girls) ideally with first and second run being held on a different set with, at minimum, a redress required between runs. • First run start order will be determined by a separate draw of girl and boys based on most recent FIS points list • Second run start order is determined by the result list of the first run except for the first 30 places, which shall start in reverse order (FIS ICR 621.11.1) • All athletes will have 2 runs Published October 2017

Equipment • All athletes must comply with the ACA domestic policy – see Appendix E • Helmets must comply with event specific rules • No Go Pro mounts and other modifications permitted • Athletes will be required to have SL, GS specific skis in compliance with ACA and FIS standards – click here for ACA National Rules and Policies including equipment specifics • Super G skis will be required for athletes participating in Super G • Other safety equipment will also be required beyond a helmet for specific disciplines (e.g. back protector in speed) • No SL chin guards on helmets at GS or Super G races • No SL hand guards on poles at GS or Super G races • Speed suits are required to meet the FIS Specifications for Competition guidelines

National Amendments to FIS ICR

222 Competition Equipment 222.1 A competitor may only take part in a National competition with equipment which conforms to the FIS or Nationally approved Regulations. A competitor is responsible for the equipment that he uses (skis, bindings, ski boots, suit, etc.). It is his duty to check that the equipment he uses conforms to the FIS specifications and general safety requirements and is in working order.

222.2 The term competition equipment encompasses all items of equipment which the competitor uses in competitions. This includes clothing as well as apparatus with technical functions. The entire competition equipment forms a functional unit.

Skis:

ACA may specify ski length and radius for national events. Physical development, ability and skills must be considered for equipment. Please refer to the National Rules and Policies document for the current competition season.

Athletes competing in FIS events must compete on equipment that respects FIS rules. This includes International Children races. Helmets:

Helmet Regulations from the ACA National Rules and Policies

Ski helmets specific to are mandatory at all times and must be in accordance with FIS compliant rules. Helmets shall comply with safety standards set forth in regard to the specific disciplines.

U14, U16 and Masters national races and FIS sanctioned events including FIS children’s races are governed by the 2017-2018 FIS equipment rules.

Appendix F OCUP Event Planning Guidelines

The following information is to provide operating guidelines for clubs running Alpine Ontario Alpin sanctioned events. The purpose of these guidelines is to ensure all events are operated to provincial standards with consistent timelines, budgeting and race quality.

1. Officials Requirement and Safety 1.1. All chiefs involved in a Race Organizing Committee should have completed a minimum of Level II Officials Training. 1.2. ROCs may appoint a chief of medical to oversee any incidents, however all ROCs must work with their venue and follow the safety protocols established by those resorts and ski patrol. 1.3. Clubs should be proactive in training and mentoring their members through the Race Officials Training Program. All volunteers working “inside the fences” must hold at least their Level 1 officials’ certification. 2. Race Notice 2.1. The draft race notice must be submitted to AOA six weeks prior to the race. 2.2. The race notice will be posted on the AOA website upon approval of the race notice. Please use the standard race notice template available on the AOA website, Documents section. 3. Budget Guidelines 3.1. It is recognized that ROC costs vary widely depending on the type of event, ski area charges, safety requirements, and other factors. Race entry fees will therefore vary from event to event. 3.2. FIS calendaring fees for each calendared codex will be forwarded to the host club for payment. 3.3. The AOA race entry levy will apply to all OCUP races on a per racer basis at $10 per day. AOA will issue invoices to ROC’s at the completion of the season. 3.4. Maximum entry fees (including lift tickets) for each age group are as follows: • U12 $45/day; • U14 $45/day; • U16 Tech $45/day; • Regional $45/day; • U16 Speed $65/day; • FIS Tech $65/ day; • FIS Speed $65/ day; • Official training days should have a minimal fee. 3.5. Fees do not necessarily include the added costs food or extras. Higher entries for speed events must be related to increased costs for additional safety. 4. Prizing Published October 2017

4.1 AOA will provide medals, ribbons and prizing (when applicable) for all OCUP Series races. 4.2 Unless secured through sponsorship, the distribution of athlete gifts such as T-shirts and similar items should not be done. 4.3 ROC’s are encouraged to apply the resources used for athlete gifts toward reduced entry fees and increased volunteer recognition or social opportunities. 5. Race Volunteer Commitments 5.1. Host clubs are expected to utilize as many volunteers as possible from their own club to run their event. 5.2. When volunteer/officials are required from other clubs, recruitment procedures should be detailed on the race notice. 6. Race Entry Deadline 6.1. The deadline for race entries is 5 days prior to the 1st day of competition for non-FIS events. FIS rules will apply for FIS events. 6.2. Minor changes to the entry due to individual athlete illness, injury or similar circumstance are permitted prior to the draw. 6.3. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the ROC. 7. Team Captains Meetings 7.1. The team captains meeting should be scheduled for the evening prior to the event or the morning of to allow out of town coaches to be in attendance at the meeting. 8. Results 8.1. Race results must be uploaded to the ACA Points site and the FIS website (if applicable) within one hour of the completion of the race. 9. Awards 9.1. Awards presentations should take place no longer than 1 hour after the completion of the race. 10. Sponsorship Execution 10.1. A representative of the ROC must be in communication with the AOA office at least 2 weeks prior to the event to make arrangements to pick up sponsor materials and to discuss specifics of sponsor fulfillment. 10.2. Transportation and setup of all sponsor materials is the responsibility of the host club. 10.3. All sponsor materials must be conveyed to the next host club in the series within 2 days following the race. At the end of the season, following the series finals, all materials must be returned to the AOA office within 2 days arranged by the club who hosts the final race series. 10.4. All ROC’s should be in communication with the host resort to ensure AOA series sponsor materials can be placed within the race arena and awards area. Placement of series sponsor materials represents a vital aspect of sponsorship activation that is essential to AOA maintaining sponsors to minimize the cost of competition within Ontario. 10.5. When an AOA representative or representatives are on site the host club will provide a lift ticket for the day at no cost. For AOA

sponsors, lift tickets will be provided on a case by case basis and agreed to in advance between AOA and the host club. Representatives will communicate with host club 1 week prior to on-site visit to confirm lift ticket needs.

11. Bibs

• If a bib is missing, the club of the athlete responsible will incur a $25/bib fine • Following any event, the hosting club must send an email to the club that the athlete assigned to the missing bib belongs to, requesting the bib is returned • All bibs must be picked up from AOA offices no later than 2 days prior to the scheduled event • All bibs must be returned (clean and sorted) to AOA offices within 2 days of event conclusion

12. OCUP Leader Bibs

OCUP Points and leader bibs – OCUP Points are posted on the U14 and U16 pages of the AOA website in Related Documents - Click here and here. FIS are posted here. We will endeavour to have them posted as quickly as possible after each OCUP event. U14, U16, and FIS will have leader bibs for those athletes leading the OCUP series – male and female. Leader bibs are to be passed on from host to host – athletes are not to keep the bibs. Please either leave them in the bib set you are passing on or coordinate with the next venue for pickup or drop off. This is an exciting new element to enhance the OCUP series and we appreciate your work to help us circulate the bibs to the next venue. The leaders are still entered into the draw as per normal. They just get to wear the leader bib.

Events to Be Held: One (1) Super-G, one (1) Giant Slalom, one (1) Slalom and one (1) Dual Slalom

This will be an ACA Pointed Race.

To be eligible for entry to U14 OCUP Finals all athletes must have submitted a fitness test result dated between Sept 1-Dec 31 to AOA by Dec 31,2017 and be registered with AOA as an OCUP athlete.

Due to the large size of this event, a quota per division will be implemented to ensure race quality and safety remain a top priority for this event. This will be reviewed on a year to year basis and may be altered based on venue and ROC capacity. Quota will be assigned as follows:

SOD – 105, NOD – 20, LSDA – 20, NCD – 35 TOTAL – 180

All unused quota will be reassigned to other divisions.

National Capital Division (NCD), Lake Superior Division Alpine (LSDA), Southern Ontario Division (SOD) and Northern Ontario (NOD) will use their own selection and seeding methods for attending athletes. These spots are to be determined by the appropriate coaches or committees within their respective Divisions to determine who participates in the races.

Alpine Ontario - Seeding Procedure:

• Seeding for the SG, GS and SL will be done based on NOD 2, LSDA 2, NCD 3, and SOD 8 per seed of 15

U14 Ontario Overall Champion:

In the event of ties, the athlete’s top single result from the three scores will be considered to break the tie.

U14 CAN AM EVENT – INTERNATIONAL RACE

Date: March 24-27, 2018

Location: Sugarloaf, USA

Races: 1 GS, 1 SL, 1 Super-G, 1 Skills Competition

Ontario quota will be 30 athletes, comprised of 15 Male and 15 Female, and will be known as “Team Ontario”. Athletes will be selected from the U14 OCUP Finals (March 13-17). Selection to the Can Am’s will be based on the best 5 of 7 runs, including SG, in all events and the best 2 of 3 combined results on a World Cup 500 point system will be used to accumulate the total of individual runs and combined results. This will be different from the Provincial Overall Championship total points and will be known as the “Can Am QUALIFYING LIST”. In the event of ties the athlete’s top single result from the qualifying scores will be considered to break the tie. The automatic quota*** for this event is: NOD – 1, LSDA – 1, NCD – 1, SOD – 4, these spots will go to the top pointed athlete(s) from each Division from the provincial championship event. ***Should any Division wish to use their automatic quota for an athlete that does not qualify through the posted selection criteria they must submit, in writing, a request, along with supporting data, and get approval from the AOA Athletic Committee.

The Athletic Committee will hold back 10% of the total Ontario quota: four (4) spots, for the Eastern U14 Can Am, to be used in the event of injury, illness, or extenuating circumstances. Please note that extenuating circumstances does not include appeals based on athletic performances. The AOA quota without the discretionary holdback will be divided based on the ratio of male to female registered AOA U14 OCUP athletes. The remaining 10% will be reallocated by gender at the discretion of the AOA Athletic Committee. The committee will review all appeals – appeals must be submitted in writing with appropriate and relevant substantiating data to the AOA Athletic Committee (via the AOA Athletic Director) no later than March 18, 2018 at 5pm.

Seeding for Team Ontario, at the Can Am, will be based on the U14 OCUP Finals. Each athlete will be ranked in each discipline by their best run score in that discipline from the OCUP Finals.

WHISTLER CUP – INTERNATIONAL RACE

Date: April 12-15, 2018

Location: Whistler Mountain, BC, CAN

Races: SL, GS and KO/Parallel SL

ALPINE ONTARIO ALPIN (AOA) WILL ENTER TWO “Team Ontario” entries based on top six (6) male and top six (6) female athletes from the U14 OCUP Finals (Can Am QUALIFICATION LIST).

This entry will be in name only as AOA will not manage these athletes and these athletes will remain with their club program. This will allow clubs to expand the opportunity for entry to U14 Whistler Cup.

FOR U14 – THE ALPINE ONTARIO COACHES COMMITTEE WILL REVIEW THIS EVENT ON A YEARLY BASIS MOVING FORWARD

Policies and Procedures for Selection

• All coaches should inform their athletes and parents at the start of the season the following protocol: any appeals of a committee decision, any questioning of the selection guidelines or criteria, any discrepancies or questions related to any selection process must come from the athlete’s delegate coach to the AOA office. The coach will be the main representative of the athlete in question. Only appeals from the athlete’s delegate coach will be considered.

• The coach of any athlete who fails to compete in any competition for any compelling reason must inform the Athletic Committee immediately. The reason must be documented very clearly, so all are aware well before any selection or discretion is put forth. Examples may include injury, sickness, serious family or personal issues etc.

• All athletes must sign and complete the standard Provincial Athlete Agreement and medical consent form before going on any overnight trip away from the Division.

• After any selection a list will be posted on the AOA website www.alpineontario.ca. Individual members of the committee will report directly to their club designate after the meeting.

• All entries have to be made to AOA 14 days prior to the competition by their clubs designate.

• All clubs will have 24 hours after being notified to appeal a decision in writing from the Head Coach to the Chair of the Athletic Committee.

• All coaches taking part in the above races will travel at the expense of their own clubs, but are required to take part in all team meetings and must assist the Team Captain in any way he/she deems appropriate.

• Any coach or athlete representative that is not present at a selection meeting, after given fair prior notice, may result in the removal of the athlete from the selection process (the final decision will be based on committee discretion). It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure that they are getting the information on a regular basis.

Policy regarding taking athlete above full quota situation:

• An alternate list of five (5) athletes will be made. If the program these athletes are associated with wants to take them, it is their preference, but they would be entered in the order that they come up on the list.

• No exceptions to this policy will be tolerated. It must be adopted by all, and leadership must be taken from the Committee.

• To be eligible for entry to Ontario U16 OCUP Finals all athletes must have submitted a fitness test result dated between Sept 1-Dec 31 to AOA by Dec 31, 2017 and be registered with AOA as an OCUP athlete. • Seeding for this event will be as follows - LSDA - 2 , NCD - 3 , NOD - 2, SOD - 8 per seed of 15 • Please see division appendices for divisional seeding procedures

• All athletes will have 2 (two) runs regardless of their first run outcome – first run DNS, DSQ and DNF’s will run at the end of their gender in bib order on the second run

The U16 Provincial Championship Title will be awarded on total points (using WC 500 point system) from the SL, the SG and the GS.

U16 Spring High Performance Opportunities

With the return of U16 Nationals and ACA Rising Stars projects, there are many more opportunities for Ontario’s still developing U16 athletes to test themselves against the best in the world. AOA will be qualifying more athletes for the spring high performance opportunities, thus capturing and developing more U16 talent with the end result of retaining more athletes post U16. The opportunities will be tiered in the following manner:

Tier 1- Team Canada Whistler Cup - April 12 -15: See Whistler Cup qualifying information below

Tier 2 - Barcelonette France - March 18-28: Top 6 athletes (3 male and 3 female) from the U16 Nationals (excluding Whistler Cup Team Canada qualifiers) will qualify for the Ontario’s Barcelonette Trip.

Tier 3 - Can Am -Tremblant April 1-4 – see Can Am qualifying information below

Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) selection is based on results from the U16 OCUP Mid-Winter and Finals* using the following data:

** Best Other could be: GS Result, SL Result, SG Result, Dual Result

*** Best Run could be any single run score from any qualifying tech event.

Point calculation will be based on World Cup 500 point system per result/run.

The calculation will include those athletes who secured spots for Tier 1 and 2 opportunities to avoid any skewing of the values.

The AOA U16 OCUP Mid-Winter and Finals will be the primary information that will be used for seeding at the U16 Eastern Can Am event.

The Athletic Committee will hold back 10% of the total Ontario quota: four (4) spots, for the Eastern U16 Can Am, to be used in the event of injury, illness, or extenuating circumstances. Please note that extenuating circumstances does not include appeals based on athletic performances. The AOA quota without the discretionary holdback will be divided based on the ratio of male to female registered AOA U16 OCUP athletes. The remaining 10% will be reallocated by gender at the discretion of the AOA Athletic Committee. The committee will review all appeals – appeals must be submitted in writing with appropriate and relevant substantiating data to the AOA Athletic Committee (via the AOA Athletic Director) no later than March 24th, 2018 at 5pm.

The AOA OCUP Finals event results will be the primary information that will be used for seeding at the U16 Eastern Can Am Finals.

WHISTLER CUP

Race Dates: April 12-15, 2018 Locations: Whistler, B.C. Events to Be Held: U16 - 1 SG/1 GS/ 1 SL ***All AOA registered athletes (as of March 1, 2018) regardless of program (i.e. USA academy) will be considered an Ontario athlete for selection to Whistler Cup and can qualify for Team Canada from the U16 National Championships.

Whistler Cup - Team Canada Alpine Canada will send a 2 U16 teams (total 12 – 6 M/ 6 F) to represent Canada at the Whistler Cup. Athletes will be selected from the U16 National Championships - specific selection details will be forthcoming from Alpine Canada.

Team Ontario - AOA U16 Selection:

Ontario will send a Team Ontario to Whistler Cup if the European project, Barcelonette France, does not happen due to poor snow conditions.

Appendix I - U19 National Championship Selection Criteria

Red Mountain BC March 21-24, 2018

Please note the U19 Championships are to be run in conjunction with the Senior National Championships. We are assuming there will still be a U19 quota allocation.

Objective: Identify best athletes in ON. Also, to give opportunities for the ON athletes to compete and improve by interacting with other athletes of similar level and better.

Principles: Recognize progressing talent and future potential and reward athletes that have demonstrated progress within the U19 age group.

• Selection will be based on athlete ranking using FIS points on the 10th list published Feb 6, 2018 • National Team Selection Method (NTSM) will be used ranking each athlete by discipline and by points. Athletes are then selected based on the lowest points in each event counting best points in each discipline progressively. (see example below) • A preliminary selection and notification to programs to be done based on FIS list 9 (the list just prior to will be used for final selection) on Jan 20, 2018. This is to give programs and parents an indication and ability to book flights etc as needed in advance.

Selection and entry process

• ON quota for National Championship will be filled • AOA can and will request additional quota should this be deemed necessary • Quota will be equally divided between genders • Based on FIS list 10, AOA Competition Director will prepare a list of athletes who qualify based on the criteria posted. • Programs and athletes will be notified by Feb 8, 2018 and are to confirm intent to attend by Feb 15, 2018 • Final list as per entry regulations will be submitted to ACA 2 weeks prior to event • Regional and Provincial teams are responsible for all arrangements for the U19 Championships including all arrangements and representations (ie. flights, accommodations, TC meetings).
