The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer Stephenie Meyer’s three masterpieces, Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse, are enchanting, compelling, and thrilling novels. When Twilight was written, Stephenie Meyer was a first-time author to the publishing industry. She had never had a work of hers published, but Twilight instantly flew to the bestseller list. The series includes super-hero-like vampires, sweet and juvenile werewolves, and an impossible love between one particularly noble vampire named Edward, and the accident-prone main character, Bella. Despite all the mythological creatures, however, the story line is realistic and heart-wrenching. The balance between action and romance leaves nothing to be desired, creating an action-packed love story guaranteed to glue readers permanently to the books. This completely clean, captivating, and enthralling series will undoubtedly leave readers begging Stephenie Meyer for more. Recommended for ages 12 and over.

Many students in American schools usually have something to complain about like: “too much homework” or “too much school”. Well in Horizon Middle School kids had a different reason to complain about. School Food Trauma has hit us once again. The government has improved American school’s food choices over the years, but many kids still don’t appreciate or like school food. Fortunately, there are still some kids who love or appreciate school food, or just don’t mind it. Zack Drechsel (8A) says, “I don’t mind school food,” and could eat it every day. He and others tend to use salads, ranch, and other condiments to spice up their food. Nevertheless, kids like Michael Odegaard (8A) and I still don’t like school food. This isn’t a bad thing as long as you appreciate the staff members. They happen to work extremely hard everyday for the kids, but rarely ever get a thank you. I’m surprised they don’t resign, and take it everyday. In my opinion, kids should respect the lunch staff whether they like the school food or not. Another so-so day for Lester. Ok, everyone, it’s time to draw! Most of us have art class in school, but we could all probably use some extra practice. So here’s your chance. Today we are going to show our spud spirit and draw the school mascot: the spud! Quick Tip: Use light lines so it’s easy to erase. Draw a bumpy oval shape to form the spud’s body.

Add eyes and a mouth to your spud. Then draw the Moorhead M just below his mouth.

Now add hands and feet to the body.

For the final touch, add the “Go Spuds!” sign to the spud’s left hand. If you want to, you can even add color to your spud! Now enjoy your spud-tastic artwork!

Are you an artist? Submit work you’d like considered for publication in Life on the Horizon to Mr. Benson in Rm 264 or Mrs. Smith in Rm 263. Horoscopes (please don't kill me)
