We GVR Live! 2016/2017 Performing Arts Season Calendar gathered an extraordinary collection of artists and performances to create our most ambitious season yet! October 20 6 p.m. – Cocktails in the Courtyard with Jarabe Mexicano . 3 GVR Live! is proud to present the legendary musical group, The Drifters, as they travel the country on their historic reunion tour. Country music superstar, Pam Tillis, comes to town to perform her favorite 27 7 p.m. – The Drifters . 4 hits with her acoustic trio. GVR Live! brings back Billy McGuigan with his newest rock-n-roll revue November 1 7 p.m. – L. A. Theatre Works Judgment at Nuremberg . 5 created just for Green Valley audiences. Senior Recreation Supervisor 2 3 The Drifters 7 p.m. Thursday, October 27 “Up on the Roof,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Dance with Me,” “Spanish Harlem,” “Stand by Me”… the list of hits goes on and on. The Drifters, one of Rock & Roll’s founding vocal groups is once again touring the U.S. Since their inception in the early 50s, The Drifters have embarked on a historical journey, which included no less than 5 legendary lead singers, including Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Clyde McPhatter and Ben E. King. The group’s ongoing musical story has covered the entire spectrum of Rock & Roll. They were the first musical group to include string instruments into Rhythm & Blues music with their hauntingly beautiful song, “There Goes My Baby.” They were the first musical group to sell two million records with their pop classic, “Up on the Roof.” They were the first African American vocal group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Along with fellow inductees the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Supremes, The Drifters were in the first class of OCTOBER with Jarabe Mexicano Rock & Roll legends to be initiated into the Hall of Fame. Their classic “Under the Boardwalk” Cocktails in the Courtyard is the most played R & B record of all time. A recent appearance at the Independence Day Celebration of the Mexican Consulate met with a typical enthusiastic response, with attendees dancing along with the compelling musical rhythms. All patrons are invited to this festive evening with dancing and complimentary beverages (some restrictions apply) to celebrate the opening of the GVR Live! 2016/2017 Performing Arts Season.
