To the President and Members of the Board of Education:

The Superintendent desires to submit the following report:

I. SUPERINTENDENT/ADMINISTRATION

A. Project C.H.A.M.P. (Mills)

The Superintendent recommends that permission be granted for Creating Higher Aspirations and Motivations Project (C.H.A.M.P), Rowan University, to conduct a Summer Program at the Environmental Center for approximately 160 youth, June 25 - August 3, 2012, for students, grades 6 - 9, Monday - Thursday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.

Project C.H.A.M.P. will employ Environmental Center staff, provide all instructional materials and supplies, and hire food vendor to prepare and deliver meals.

There will be no cost to the Board.

B. Donations

1. Hatch Family School

It is recommended that permission be granted for Hatch Family School to accept guitars for the music program from Eli Rosen and Fender Guitar Company.

There will be no cost to the Board.

2. McGraw Elementary School

It is recommended that permission be granted for McGraw Elementary School to accept a donation in the amount of $1,000.00 from The Prudential Foundation, in recognition of the 2011 Global Volunteer Day challenge grant program.

There will be no cost to the Board.

3. Molina Elementary School

It is recommended that permission be granted for Molina Elementary School to accept a grant in the amount of $4,500.00 from the Adventure Aquarium. Grant money will be utilized to beautify the school.

There will be no cost to the Board.

On the January 24, 2012, Official Superintendent’s Report, the overtime rate for School Security Officer was incorrectly listed as $18.98 per hour. 5. Entrepreneurial Partnership-Rutgers University

It is recommended that permission be granted for MetEast High School to participate in an entrepreneurial partnership directed by Dr. Briance Mascarenhas, Rutgers University. March 1 – June 20, 2012. The goal of the program is to teach students the importance of mathematical concepts in business development.

The entrepreneurial project will include the establishment of a school store for students to purchase school supplies along with a nutritional café that will provide creative nutritious meals prepared by the students. Proceeds will be used for student activities

It is recommended that permission be granted for Pyne Poynt Middle School to continue their partnership with Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts. Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts is offering 28 free tickets (25 students and 3 chaperones) to a performance of “Cuentos del Arbol”, March 2, 2012. ( Bi- lingual Performing Arts Club will utilize the donation. The students and chaperone will walk to the Gordon Theater, 3rd Street, Camden, New Jersey.

2. Haitian Health Foundation

It is recommended that permission be granted for Pyne Poynt Middle School to host a penny drive in support of the Haitian Health Foundation, during the month of March. Monies will be donated to the foundation to purchase coats for families in need.

2. Philadelphia Museum of Arts Partnership
