Whitney has never lost to a team with a sub-.500 record and all five of the losses have come against Top 15 teams.

LOOKING FOR AN ENCORE: Matt Szczur will be hard pressed to duplicate the year he had in 2009-10. As a football player last year, Szczur was named the CAA Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Year, a first team All- American and he helped lead the Wildcats to the FCS National Championship by being named the Most Outstanding Player of the title game. Last spring, Szczur batted .397 for the Villanova baseball team and was named first team All-Big East for his efforts. In June, he was a fifth round selection of the in the MLB Draft. In addition, he donated peripheral blood cells during a bone marrow donation for a young girl suffering from childhood leukemia.

SZCZUR’S SUMMER: After being selected in the fifth round of the Draft by the Chicago Cubs, Matt Szczur signed a contract with the club and played this summer in the Cubs minor league system. Szczur played one game in Arizona in the Cubs Instructional League before being sent to the Boise Hawks for short season A Ball. He finished the sum- mer by playing six games with the Cubs Single A team in Peoria, Illinois. He batted a combined .347 at all three levels.

MR. VERSATILITY: You would be hard-pressed to find a more versatile player in the country than senior wideout Matt Szczur. Throughout the course of a game, Szczur will play wide receiver, running back, quarterback, serve as a return man and also be one of the team’s top special teams players. Last year, he recorded 51 receptions for 610 yards and four touchdowns, 108 carries for 813 yards and 10 touchdowns, 30 kickoff returns for 816 yards and one score and he completed 4-of-4 for 22 yards and two scores.

TACKLING TERRY: Villanova’s leading returning tackler is senior linebacker Terence Thomas. As a junior last season, Thomas amassed a team-high 116 tackles (68 solo/48 assisted) to go with 11 tackles for loss and 8.5 quarterback sacks. For his efforts last year, Thomas was a first team All-CAA selection. Thomas, who has started all 39 games of his career, has been named the 2010 preseason CAA Defensive Player of the Year.

GROUND GAME: The Wildcats will look to two fifth-year seniors to carry the load at the running back position. Aaron Ball and Angelo Babbaro will provide Villanova with a tough one-two punch in the backfield. As a sopho- more in 2008, Ball became just the third Wildcat in history to register a 1,000 yard rushing season when he ran for 1,081 yards. Last year, Ball tallied 794 yards rushing and he enters the 2010 campaign ranked seventh on Villanova’s all-time rushing list with 2,122 yards. Babbaro ranked fourth on last year’s team in rushing with 442 yards on 69 carries (6.4 yards per carry) and six scores. His best effort of the 2009 season came against New Hampshire in the NCAA quarterfinal round when he ran for a career-high 148 yards on 13 car- ries and two touchdowns.

OVERTIME HISTORY: During head coach Andy Talley’s tenure, Villanova has played 13 overtime games and in those 13 contests the Wildcats are 9-4. The Wildcats have won seven of their last nine overtime games. The team’s last overtime game came on Sept. 20, 2008 when the ‘Cats tallied a 20-14 win over Penn.
