Lot No Description Estimate 62 The vendor informs us : This is the prototype electric £100-£200 mountain bike, commissioned by Southern Electric (now SSE) to support their campaign on the environmental benefits of electric transport. This campaign, which ran from 1993 to 1996, included the Oxford Electric Bus project, charging points on the Thames for electric boats, and the long term testing of a factory converted battery powered VW Golf. The mountain bike was intended to be both eyecatching and youth appealing and used as a simple practical means to take the message to schools, country fairs, village fetes and other outside events where people could see and try it for themselves. The bike competed in the Citelec 2 day electric vehicle race around Oxford in 1995. Designed and built by TGA Leisure it features 2 x 12volt sealed lead/acid batteries wired in series to power a 24 volt DC motor which supplements cranked pedal power to drive through a 5 speed Shimano derailleur gear. It has a master shut off safety switch and a power capacity meter. There is a purpose built automatic mains operated 24 volt charger. Power output is electronically controlled using a motorcycle type handlebar twist grip and can deliver speeds up to 40 mph (which is now in excess of the legal maximum – be warned!) The machine is a bit of a handful, the lead acid batteries make it very heavy and the front/rear weight distribution gives good traction but poor handling! The batteries are the original, 25 years old, and therefore totally shot. The rear tyre has also suffered from too many traffic lights GP starts and needs replacing. 63 An Old Leather Saddle £10-£20

By the Vendor: Built in June 1992 for the UK market this car features the 119.960 series 4973cc V8 petrol engine thus avoiding the later series which suffered from the introduction of biodegradable insulation in the wiring looms. It is fitted with the removable factory hardtop and folding rear seats. Registered on 04/02/93 the car’s first owner was Paul Jaconelli, the founder of the supercar specialists ‘Romans’ of Epsom, who ran it with his own private registration plate until the summer of 1995 when it was sold to Howard Donald of the boy band ‘Take That’. Apparently treating himself after the success of the group’s album ‘Nobody Else’ and particularly the subsequent No.1 single ‘Never Forget’, on which he featured as lead vocalist, he ran the car under his own private plate for three years until November 98 when he bought his first Ferrari. Although carrying AMG badging (which it is not) the car has new AMG like ‘Oz’ split alloys. Just fitted with new distributor caps and rotor arms it runs very well and has a new MoT. [Note: At present the wing mirrors and passenger seat do not adjust electrically, and although there is also a problem with the soft top ICU a replacement unit comes with the car.]
