Friday District Games and 36ers Games

As many 36ers fans and SA members would be aware, the 2010/11 National Basketball League season schedule contains an increase in the number of games scheduled on Friday nights in comparison to previous years. This decision has assisted in the securing of a contract with One HD which will see a significant number of NBL games televised on free to air TV.

Five Adelaide 36ers home games have been scheduled on Friday nights that clash with the Junior District season. Basketball SA has made the decision to avoid scheduling junior district games one on of these Fridays (12/11/2010), but to still schedule district games on the other four Fridays (3/12/2010, 18/2/2011, 4/3/2011 and 18/3/2011). The last two of these dates will involve finals matches for most divisions, reducing the number of people affected by the clash.

There are approximately 5,000 Basketball SA members involved in the district competition, approximately 2,000 of which participate on Friday nights and approximately 200 of which are 36ers members. The decision to only reschedule games on one of the five dates which clash has been made to ensure as little disruption as possible to district participants, while still showing support for our state’s NBL club.

The Adelaide 36ers game on Friday 12/11/2010 is against the and district games scheduled for this night will instead be played on Saturday 13/11/2010. Basketball SA and the 36ers encourage all district participants to make most of the opportunity to attend a Friday 36ers game on this night. The 36ers will be heavily promoting this game to district participants and have also announced deals in which tickets can be purchased for groups of 5, 7 or 10 home games that do not clash with the junior district competition.

In parallel, Basketball SA is working closely with the Adelaide 36ers on a community program in which 36ers players and coaches are involved in Aussie Hoops, mini-ball, school visits and school competitions. In addition, the team is visiting a number of local venues for their training sessions, and will combine these sessions with clinics for local players and coaches.

Basketball SA and the Adelaide 36ers hope that members of both our organisations understand the decisions made regarding district scheduling and hope you continue to support us in the ongoing development of basketball at all levels in this state.
