Education 1994-1998 Ph.D. entitled Dimensionality Reduction for Agent-Based Learning University of Aberdeen, Department of Computing Science Advisor: Dr P. Edwards Developed data representation and dimensionality reduction techniques for agent-based machine learning tasks. This involved the development of Case-Based and Inductive Learning systems, and techniques for feature selection and feature weighting. 1993-1994 M.Sc. in Applied Artificial Intelligence University of Aberdeen, Department of Computing Science Thesis Title: Learning Email Filtering Rules with Magi - A Mail Agent Interface. Derived inductive learning techniques for user modeling, and automatic generation of personalized email filtering rules. Developed an information agent that collaborated with, and observed how the user managed email messages for personalized email filtering. 1987-1990 B.Sc. (HONS) in Computing Systems Engineering University of Kent at Canterbury, Department of Electronic Engineering

Work Experience 2001-Present Project Scientist Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University. Directed the ATLAS project, in the DARPA Agent Markup Language (DAML) program, where we developed ontologies for describing: agent capabilities, service parameters and security mechanisms; middleware tools that facilitate location of agent services through semantic capability matching; and the composition of meta services based on descriptions of available services. Lead the NASA MORSE project, which explored different decision criteria that NASA Range teams encounter during space vehicle launch, and then developed cognitive models to improve team coordination and behavior. Provided research support to Dr Sycara’s Intelligent Software Agents Laboratory; Participated in discussions and assisted with writing grant proposals. 1998-2001 Post Doctorial Research Fellow with Dr. Katia Sycara Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University. Conducted research on automated learning within coordinated multi-agent team planning, and intelligent adaptive interface agents for human team environments. Developed several agents for a variety of multi-agent systems, including those that provide adaptive assistance to support team-oriented planning. Organized experiment protocols, recruited human subjects, ran experiments, and analyzed the results. 1990-1993 Software Engineer, System Simulation Ltd, Covent Garden, London, UK Information Retrieval/Data Processing: Developed front-end hypertext client for an in-house Index+ free-text system; developed data conversion and transformation tools, and prototyped demonstration systems. Graphics/DTP: Developed the C-binding layer for the Graphics Kernel System (GKS), SGML based editing suite for in-house documentation, and PostScript drivers for Index+ client applications.
