ONE PARTICULAR NEWSLETTER the Ophicial Publication of the Orange County Parrot Head Club Partying with a Purpose for Over 20 Years!
ONE PARTICULAR NEWSLETTER The Ophicial Publication of the Orange County Parrot Head Club Partying with a purpose for over 20 years! www.ocphc.org December 2016 Last Mango in Irvine for Jimmy Buffett & The Coral Reefer Band Jimmy Buffett and The Coral Reefer Band played for the last time at The Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in Irvine on Saturday, October 22nd. The OCPHC was the national host for The Last Mango in Irvine Party. Word of the party went out on the club Facebook page and a pre-concert tailgate was planned near the event. Several club members joined the official Club RV to help prepare for the party. Much to our surprise, more than 10 additional RVs from all across the country joined us to get ready and gear up for the concert. Our old friend Jimmy Groovy showed up in costume and added to the pre-concert fun. Once inside the parking lot, Jerry Gontang played to the huge crowd In This Issue around the OCPHC event site. A.J.’s famous Cheeseburgers in Paradise were on the grill all were partying just like Bubba does in Pg 1: Last Mango in Irvine preparation for the concert. Once inside the venue, Jimmy and the CRB did not disappoint. The 26 song set included a tribute to Jimmy’s Pg 2: Andy’s Irvine Letter friend, Glenn Frey of The Eagles, who recently passed away. The show concluded in appropriate fashion with an acoustic version Pg 3: Tilleritaville of Lovely Cruise. Several club members related to the fact that they saw the first and last Buffett shows at Irvine Pg 4-7: Tales From MOTM Meadows. -
Deana Carter Danny Myrick
Deana Carter DEANA CARTER, the daughter of famed studio guitarist and producer Fred Carter, Jr., grew up surrounded by musical greats, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, and Simon & Garfunkel. She developed her songwriting skills at writer’s nights throughout Nashville, but her real break came when one of her demo tapes fell into the hands of Willie Nelson, who remembered Deana as a child. Impressed with how she’d grown as a songwriter, Nelson asked Deana to perform along with John Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, and Neil Young, as the only female solo artist to appear at Farm Aid VII in 1994. Her 1996 debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? quickly climbed to the top of both the country and pop charts, quickly achieving multi-platinum status. "Strawberry Wine,” the first single from the album, was awarded CMA's 1997 Single of the Year. Seven albums and a decade later, Deana is still writing and producing for both the pop/rock and country markets when not on the road touring. Her superstar success continues to be evident. Her chart topper “You & Tequila,” co-written with Matraca Berg and recorded by Kenny Chesney, was nominated in 2011 as CMA’s “Song of the Year” and received two Grammy nods. Carter also recently co-wrote and produced a new album for recording artist Audra Mae while putting the finishing touches on her own Southern Way of Life that hit the shelves last December. Danny Myrick DANNY MYRICK is an award winning songwriter and musician based here in Nashville. -
Robert Deaton
November 21, 2011 Issue 270 Inside The Awards: Robert Deaton Just shy of two weeks since the 45th Annual CMA Awards, Country Aircheck spoke with Executive Producer Robert Deaton for his thoughts on the telecast, how it all came together and several of its memorable moments. CA: You’ve had some time to process the show and maybe decompress. What are your Robert Deaton thoughts in hindsight? RD: A lot of credit needs to be passed around because there are so many people – starting with the artists – who make it happen, but I feel like this was our best effort. Going into the show, what I really wanted to do was not compromise at all with Pub Scouts: EMI Nashville’s Eric Church buddies up with the backstage crowd at last week’s Chief Deconstructed show at Joe’s Pub in Chicago. Pictured (l-r) are any of the performances. I wanted each one to put the artist in the label’s Chuck Swaney and Angela Lange, Church, and WUSN’s Marci Braun, the best possible position. Musicians Surprise Fans with Election Reminder Calls
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MUSICIANS SURPRISE FANS WITH ELECTION REMINDER CALLS Fans can request election reminder phone calls from rock stars at HeadCount.org; Most calls will be recorded but a few lucky fans will get the real thing New York, NY – Some of the biggest names in music will be hitting the phones over the next week to help get the vote out, calling randomly-selected fans and chatting about the upcoming election. Willie Nelson, ?uestlove of the Roots, and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips are among the dozen musicians involved with the “Pledge to Vote” campaign staged by HeadCount, a nonpartisan organization that promotes electoral participation. Each artist recorded reminders that will be sent to fans before Election Day via automated phone calls. In addition, most artist participants will be making live calls - surprising fans who expect to only hear a recording. “Let’s get some folks cranked up about this,” said Bob Weir, a HeadCount board member who will also be personally calling dozens of voters. “It’s so important that people, particularly young people, are paying attention and voting so a bunch of cranky old folks don’t steal their future. Hopefully getting a call from a familiar voice will be motivation.” Weir is currently touring with his former Grateful Dead bandmate Phil Lesh under the name Furthur. HeadCount co-chair Marc Brownstein, of The Disco Biscuits, will personally phone dozens of fans from HeadCount's Manhattan office the night before the election, Monday Nov. 1st. Meanwhile, video cameras will be rolling and all the calls will be streamed live on the Web at www.HeadCount.org/Blog and www.Relix.com starting at 9 PM ET. -

Coy Bowles, Member of the Two-Time GRAMMY Award Winning and Multi
Coy Bowles, member of the two-time GRAMMY Award winning and multi-platinum Zac Brown Band, will release his first solo album ‘Love Takes Flight’ via Southern Ground Records, Inc. on October 5th. Growing up as an only child in Thomaston, GA, Bowles’ creativity was fueled by his unique ability to engage in a multitude of artistic endeavors. Teaching himself guitar at the age of ten, Coy actively pursued music, prophetically meeting future band mate, Zac Brown, at West Georgia University. It was fellow Zac Brown Band member, Clay Cook, who encouraged Coy to book the studio and record the album. “Life is a ever turning road and love and loss are a part of it. This album is my journal of how the last few years have affected me and how I learned to release and heal while living a life of major success with Zac Brown Band” states Bowles. A combination of loss and heartache are evident themes throughout the album. Specifically, Coy was affected by the losses of a mentor, a student, and a childhood friend. Most of the songs of heartache Bowles wrote on the road with Zac Brown Band. Bowles says “Relationships are hard and so is the loss after the realization that it's never going to work.” Other songs like ‘Love Train’ are about being in love and the world spinning beneath your feet. ‘Follow the Sun’ is about friends of Bowles who joined the military. Musicians on the record include long time Fellowship members Jordan Shalhoup and David Englehard, Atlanta's first call drummer Mark Cobb of Y-O-U and Yacht Rock and Nashville studio and session bassist and producer, Matt Mangano. -
