Silver Bells

"Silver Bells" is a classic Christmas song, composed by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. The lyric is unusual for a Christmas song in that it describes the festival in the city and not a rural setting.

Silver Bells was first performed by and Marilyn Maxwell in the motion picture The Lemon Drop Kid, filmed in July-August 1950 and released in March 1951. The first recorded version was by and Carol Richards, released in October 1950. After the Crosby and Richards recording became popular, Hope and Maxwell were called back in late 1950 to refilm a more elaborate production of the song.

Christmas makes you feel emotional It may bring parties or thoughts devotional Whatever happens or what may be. Here is what Christmas time means to me.

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks. Strings of street lights even stop lights Dressed in holiday style Blink a bright red and green In the air there's a feeling of Christmas As the shoppers rush home with their treasures

Children laughing people passing Hear the snow crunch see the kids bunch Meeting smile after smile This is Santa's big scene And on every street corner you'll hear And above all this bustle you'll hear

Silver bells, silver bells It's Christmas time in the city Silver bells, silver bells Ring-a-ling, hear them ring It's Christmas time in the city Soon it will be Christmas day Ring-a-ling, hear them sing Soon it will be Christmas day
