CHURCH DIARY Dear Friends, Bell - ringing Practice Welford 1st & 3rd Mondays at 7.30pm Bell - ringing Practice Sibbertoft 2nd & 4th Mondays at 7.30pm Matins Welford Wednesday at 9.30am As we look ahead in to 2020, we can have no real knowledge of what the Matins Marston Trussell Every 1st Tuesday at 10.00am year will bring - but whatever happens, God is with us. Holy Communion at Sibbertoft Manor Every 1st Wednesday at 11 am As Matthew records in his account of the birth of Christ: “ Look the virgin Mothers Union Corporate Communion Welford First Wednesday every month at 10.00am shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel ”, which means, ‘ God is with us. ’ (Matthew 1:23) At Christmas time, we celebrate the coming together of earth and heaven, remembering when God was born as flesh and blood into our world – the same world that first came into being through his creative love. PSALMS AND READINGS What does that mean, though? We hear each year something of what it Sunday 5th January meant to Mary and Joseph, to the shepherds, to the wise men, to Herod. But Psalm 150 what about us? What does it mean to us? For we are part of the same story: 1st Isaiah 60, 1 to 6 in and through Jesus, we discover that God ’ s story is our story, too. He is not 2nd Ephesians 3, 1 to 12 absent or uninterested, but present and involved. He longs for each of us to say “ yes ” to him, just as Mary did; to be allowed to turn our lives upside Gospel Matthew 2, 1 to 12 down in the most wonderful and unexpected ways as we travel into the Sunday 12th January Kingdom of God. Psalm 29 God doesn ’ t coerce us into a particular way of behaving, but Christ has 1st Isaiah 42, 1 to 9 demonstrated what it means to be human. Only God the Son can be the 2nd Acts 10, 34 to 43 perfect, sinless, human, but made in his image, we see in Christ the sort of Gospel Matthew 2, 1 to 12 life we need to live, the sort of life that will bring fulfillment, contentment, Sunday 19th January wholeness. Psalm 95 What that Kingdom journey is like, is up to us – we can be fearful of what 1st Isaiah 49, 1 to 7 saying yes might bring, but also faithful and obedient as Mary was; we can be 2nd 1 Corinthians1, 1 to 9 hopeful of a new, changed order of priorities and power, as the marginalized Gospel John1, 29 to 42 shepherds were; we can seek deeper, more profound wisdom as the magi did. Alternatively, we can turn our back on God, and choose unthinking power, Sunday 26th January hate and death, as Herod did. What will you choose? Psalm 46 In a world beset by violence, division and misery, God is with us, longing for 1st Isaiah 9, 1 to 4 us to choose faith, hope and love. 2nd 1 Corinthians 1, 10 to 18 As we discern what that means to us, come along on 18 th January to hear how Gospel Matthew 4, 12 to 23 you have contributed to our understanding, and also something of our plans for the future. See the advert for more details. And, as we begin this new year, it is my prayer that it is the year when you find true fulfilment, joy and peace.

Mothers Union Rev. Miranda The next Mothers Union Corporate Communion will be held in Page 3 Welford Church at 10.00am on Wednesday 5th February

A SHARED VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Come and find out what you all told us, and what that means for our parishes and benefice! Our Father knows what`s best for us, so why should we There will be a meeting in Welford Youth & Community Centre on Saturday, complain? 18 th January, 2020, at 10am, to discuss some of the ideas and thoughts that you shared with us. We always want the sunshine but he knows there must be rain.

You have all had a part to play in discerning God ’ s Vision, and are all part of We love the sound of laughter and the merriment of cheer, the journey towards it – don ’ t miss out on what ’ s happening! But our hearts would loose their tenderness if we never shed a Hope to see you there. tear.

Our father tests us often with suffering and with sorrow. He tests us, not to punish us but to help us meet tomorrow. For growing trees are strengthened when they withstand the storm,

and the sharp cut of the chisel gives the marble grace and form. God never hurts us needlessly and he never wastes our pain, for every loss he sends to us is followed by rich gain.

And when we count the blessings that God has freely sent, we will find no cause for murmuring and no time to lament. For our Father loves his children and to him all things are plain, so whenever we are troubled and whenever things go wrong, it`s just God working in us to make our spirit strong.
