What if all of the Urban Legends we fear. were real? 10 Comic Book Studios That Have Yet To Make Their Big Screen Debut. While Marvel and DC currently dominate the comic book genre of film, there are plenty of other comic book studios that need big screen adaptations. Hollywood is constantly looking for new material to adapt to the big screen. While original scripts are starting to become more popular once more, many studios are scouring the world of comic books in the hope of finding a hidden gem. Of course, both Marvel and DC currently dominate the comic book genre of film; there are plenty of other options out there though. In recent years companies like Valiant or IDW have worked alongside major studios to bring their comics to life on screen. While there are more opportunities for these comic book publishers on TV and streaming services, it's still quite a rarity for a company to be able to see their characters on the big screen! There are so many more brilliant publishers that could offer up unique worlds which may contribute to new cinematic experiences. 10 Honorable Mention: Top Cow. Top Cow is a complicated one as there have been a few on-screen adaptations. The company is a partner with and has a little taste of Hollywood. It's Witchblade title has been both a TV show and a TV movie. Top Cow has had a single cinematic release in 2008 with Wanted. However, unlike recent hits like Kick Ass and Bloodshot this was hardly the coming-out party for the company and the fact that it was a comic book was almost an afterthought. The company boasts many non-superhero titles that could really act as the official debut of the company on screen, like its competing publishers. 9 Humanoids. Humanoids has an incredibly long history in the comic book world. Starting out as a European-based company, in its original form it was known for publishing Heavy Metal magazine which was actually adapted into film by Columbia Pictures in 1981. While this was just before the comic book movie boom of the 90s, it certainly showed that the company had potential on-screen. Humanoid's new format has seen some great comic books published like Omni by Alitha Martinez and Devin K. Grayson and Urban Legendz by Paul Downs, Michael Yates, and Nick Bruno. Many of their titles certainly have a cinematic future. 8 Scout Comics. Scout Comics has a core mission of contributing to the entertainment industry by bringing together fantastic creators, in order to produce unforgettable characters and storylines. So far they have been extremely successful, creating titles such as The Mall by Don Handfield and James Haick III. The company is constantly pushing to have their unconventional work adapted to screen and it seems they may have some future success with books like Unikorn by Don Handfield and Joshua Malkin, which is currently in development at Armory Films. 7 Action Lab Comics. Featuring a crop of talent with over 25 years of experience in the industry, Action Lab Comics has all the ingredients needed for the recipe of success. With most of their work garnering recognition from the Eisner Awards, the industry is certainly watching. The company has grown to be able to work with licensed characters and is even creating a comic book in partnership with the NFL called NFL Rush Zone. Despite their array of award-winning titles though, none of them have made it to theaters quite yet. 6 Markosia. Established in 2005, this London based company is continuing to make waves in the comic book industry. It has worked alongside top tier talent and has a great roster of characters which production companies could pull inspiration from. Priding itself on trying to cover the many genres of the comic book industry, Markosia isn't all about superhero sidekicks and monstrous villains. Its three main categories are its World of Heroes, World of Wonder, and World of Darkness. Any number of titles from these lines could easily make the transition from print to script. 5 Aftershock Comics. Aftershock Comics is seen as a strange hybrid between the entertainment industry and the comic book world. Its titles are designed to play off of the current demands from audiences and it has produced series that have definitely made waves amongst fans. While it has not had any big-screen adaptations as of this writing, Legendary is currently in development on bringing Animosity by Arnold Bennett from the page to live-action. This may be the first of many opportunities for the company to expand outside of publishing. 4 215 Ink. When it comes to classic titles fans often look to companies like Marvel or DC, going through new Star Wars canon books or perhaps checking out the latest Spawn offering. Yet, 215 Ink has been producing retro hits for years, much like Freaks And Gods by Chris Dreier and Giuseppe D'Elia. The Philadelphian Company may have started in 2010, but it still feels like quite a small publisher despite over 30 titles in its catalogs. Many of these would be fit for a movie adaptation, it's simply a matter of waiting for the industry to take notice of the great work being done here. 3 . Lion Forge Comics is an absolute force in the comic book industry. Merging with in recent years (which has had some cinematic success), the company has a huge array of titles that could appeal to all ages. Its creative approach has resulted in huge success within Hollywood in its animation department though, with the company partnering with Sony Pictures Animation to create Hair Love , the Oscar award-winning short film. Surely some of its comic book titles could see an animated adaption in the works. 2 Time Bomb Comics. Time Bomb Comics is another smaller publisher with a big future. It takes a number of risks in its editorial choices, publishing books about famous real-life figures like Dick Turpin and moving into the world of fantasy and science fiction. The UK-based company is completely focused on great storytelling and this approach appears to be paying off. With their journey only just starting, it's probably only a matter of time until indie titles like Brawler and Flintlock gain the attention of high-level producers. 1 Stranger Comics. Stranger Comics is pitched as a multi-platform publishing agency and it has already taken the indie comic book market by storm. Its titles are unique and compelling, with the company actually featuring multiple divisions including one aimed at kids. The producer of Watchmen, Llyod Levin, is working on adapting The Untamed into a script for film. As long as they get the casting right and the movie is as close to the comic as possible, it will be clear to audiences why Hollywood took a chance on this indie publisher.
