WEEKDAY READINGS SCRIPTURE INSIGHTS

M, Today’s readings invite us to reflect on our need for A 8, 2019 redemption and to open our eyes to the new things that D 13:1-9, 15-17, God wants to do for us. 19-30,33-62 The First Reading is addressed to the exiles in Babylon. They are told that God is about to destroy the J 8:12-20 Babylonian Empire. What a marvelous thing! God will buy back the exiles in the same way that he destroyed T, the pharaoh’s army at the Red Sea. Moreover, this new A 9, 2019 Exodus will be so great that they will forget the first N 21:4-9 one. God makes all things new. J 8:21-30 In the Second Reading, Paul tells the community at Philippi about his former life as a persecutor of the followers of Jesus and about how everything he once W, had is now considered rubbish in light of knowing A 10, 2019 Christ and his Resurrection. Here, “knowing” means D 3:14-20, 91-92, 95 experiencing Christ in faith. J 8:31-42 In the Gospel’s powerful story about Jesus and a woman charged with adultery, the scribes and T, Pharisees force Jesus to be a judge so that they might entrap him. But what about the woman? She is shamed A 11, 2019 at least twice. The men who brought charges against S. S, her would have witnessed the act, and now she is made B M to stand before these men while she awaits judgment. It G 17:3-9 is likely that she had been raped because most women J 8:51-59 in the ancient world were not given freedom to voluntarily engage in sexual relations. Jesus saves her F, by saying that the one who has no sin cast the first stone. A 12, 2019 J 20:10-13  From the First Reading, what can you conclude J 10:31-42 about God’s relationship to humanity?

S,  What would you have wanted to say to the woman A 13, 2019 accused of adultery? S. M, P M E 37:21-28  What phrases in Paul’s testimony of faith resonate J 11:45-56 with you?
