9669996AA6AAAAAA www.rosetownfunerals.com Games fever begins Te Wiki o te Reo Ma¯ori Yesterday marked the start of the 40th Te Wiki o te Reo Ma¯ori (Ma¯ori Language Week). You will notice this week some of our regular titles have been translated into Te Reo — thanks to Te Wa¯nanga o Aotearoa cultural advisor Paraone Gloyne. On Page 2 we look at the significance of Te Wiki o te Reo Ma¯ori, and why despite all efforts, use of Te Reo is in decline. The theme is ‘Te Kupu o te Wiki’ — ‘The Word of the Week’. A new Ma¯ori word will be highlighted each week for 50 weeks and schools, communities and organisations are encouraged to introduce and adopt it. Volunteer visit Lorraine Hooper from Volunteering Waikato will be guest speaker at the Arthritis Support Group Meeting tomorrow (10am, RSA). Ms Hooper is the Regional Co-ordinator and ensures community groups get volunteers they need to support their service and that volunteers are suitably matched to an organisation. A robot helped Kihikihi Table Tennis Club win the deciding rubber of the interclub tri-series against Matamata. Kihikihi triumphed 40-20 at home after being thrashed 48-12 in round two at Matamata last month. Club coach, Hyrum Sunnex prepared his players for the crunch match by using a table tennis robot to assist in repeti- tive ball motions with various spin modes to help his players learn how to master various playing styles. A lot of the players took advantage of this technology that the club has available and ben- efited from the extra coaching. This clearly showed through- out the night with Matamata club president Lyall Wilson acknowledging the major improvement of many Kihikihi players since they last met. It is interesting to note that neither team has beaten each other when travelling to the opposition’s venues for the past two years.
