Supporting our Community : Supporting our Heritage : Supporting our Parish Hall Supported by Our Heritage Project

Our Heritage Project is based on conserving, preserving and sustaining our Parish Hall as a vital community facility and as a building with significant heritage value, locally and beyond.

The Project was initiated by East Worlington Parish Hall Trustees and the project plan developed by Worlington Heritage Group which is an Action Group consisting of Trustees and other members of the community.

The two main needs driving the project are:  the condition of the building and the need to ensure it can fulfil its func- tion as a community facility; and  the desire to maximise and preserve the heritage potential associated with the building as a functioning artefact of our local community history.

The building conservation and preservation:

 Periodic renewal of the thatch  Install appropriate heating solution  Remove decaying floor timber and alter for a more sustainable solution  Improve internal environment by reducing issues associated with dampness and condensation  Create storage below and above the stage  Upgrade the electrical infrastructure  Remove the ceiling and expose original roof space  Create a window on the inside of the old barn door so it can be viewed internally

The research, investigation, interpretation and learning:

 Research the historical development of the Hall and the evolution of the community from C17th  Better understand the relationship between the Hall and the community over the centuries  Create an archive of information about the locality especially from C17th  Enable learning about the heritage of the locality Project Governance, Leadership and Management

Why the difference

Our project was originally developed on estimates for an oil fired heating solution. During the project planning Air Source heating became the preferred heating solution option. The approximate difference in cost is £15,000 more for Air Source. It is preferred because it offers a more environmentally friendly solution and is cheaper to run.
