Recognises that the recent wildfires in Australia and floods in Jakarta, Indonesia provide clear evidence of a climate emergency; urges the EU and its Member States to assume a global leadership role, driving policies forward with immediate, medium-term and long- term objectives to mitigate the effects of climate change, defend habitats, preserve and bolster biodiversity, as well as to transform its foreign and trade policies accordingly, and to assist developing countries in implementing programmes for the protection of biodiversity; calls for a campaign in farming, breeding, and forest communities to ensure that we all work together to end practices, whether traditional or not, that threaten ecosystems and increase fire risks, particularly in high-risk seasons;
