1. Acts is a continuation of the gospel of Luke, written to a Roman official, Theophilus. In vs.1-8, what does Jesus command his followers to do? What are they to wait for?

2. In 9-11, put in your own words the events of Jesus’ ascension. Who might the two men be who asked the apostles, “Why do you stand gazing up into heaven?”?

3. Vs. 12-14 - What did the disciples do next? Besides the apostles, who joined them in their times of prayer? Can you remember some who earlier rejected Jesus’ ministry but who are named with them now?

4. Vs. 15-19 - There is some confusion about the death of Judas. Some scholars say vs. 18 is probably a continuation of Matthew’s account in chap. 27, and that after Judas hanged himself, his body was tossed into this purchased “field of blood”. How many has their little group grown to? Who is clearly their spokesman and what problem does he immediately address?

5. Vs. 20-26 - What are the two elements used for choosing a to take Judas’ place (v. 21 and v. 22)? Who was chosen, and by what method? Would that be a viable method today for choosing a Christian church leader?

1. Pentecost was the Old Testament feast held 50 days after Passover. Jesus was crucified at Passover, and now at Pentecost the Holy Spirit is given to the church. In vs. 1-4, what signs made it unmistakable that the Holy Spirit had come, and how did the disciples respond?

2. Vs. 5-13 - How many nations of the world were represented by the witnesses to this event? What was their reaction? Can you see how they would create the first great missionary movement of the Church?

3. Vs. 14-15 - Who again takes charge, and what does he say to set things straight? What do you think would have been the reaction of the crowd at this time?

4. Read vs. 16-21. Who is being quoted? What can you find in this prophecy that relates to what has just happened? Would you get this on your own, or do you need Peter’s explanation?

5. Vs. 22-28 - Peter used the OT prophecy to illuminate the NT fulfillment of the coming of the Holy Spirit. In this section, he uses OT prophecy to validate something else. Who does he quote and what is his point?
