While the OBDII EGR system is being monitored, the amount of EGR flow is increased in order to improve the failure detection level. During this time engine combustion worsens, which causes the surging to be felt. This condition may lead the customer to believe they have a transmission concern. Vehicles exhibiting these symptoms should have the PCM reprogrammed by Mazda using the fol- lowing PCM calibration part numbers (refer to Mazda factory bulletin 01-032/04). The PCM calibration has been revised to ng decrease the amount of EGR flow, and improve combustion during the EGR monitoring period.

Vehicle: 2003-2005 Mazda 6 Engine: 2.3L Transmission: FN4AEL (4F27E) Symptom: Harsh 1-2 upshift Some vehicles may exhibit a harsh 1-2 upshift under light to medium acceleration, when engine temperature is cold or during warm-up. The TCM logic has been revised to correct this concern. Vehicles exhibiting these symptoms should have the TCM reprogrammed by Mazda using the TCM calibration part numbers from Mazda (factory bulletin 05-009/05).
